Hi,
Last Thursday I sold a completely sealed DVD box set and shipped it out Saturday. The box set was never opened and had its original shrink wrap. The box set was purchased online from either Amazon or Buy.com about 14 years ago. I just received a message from the customer stating one of the discs was missing. I have purchased many DVDs and Blu-Rays over the years, and while one box set was missing a card listing the episodes, I never purchased a box set and had a missing disc.
This customer is offering to ship the box set back if I refund them their money. However, I almost wonder if they purchased this box set to replace a disc that they may have lost.
On one hand, I don't want a box set sent back to me with a missing disc since I just wanted to clean out stuff and do not want to have to try to resell an incomplete set. On the other hand, I don't want to tell the customer to keep it and I will refund them their money. However, I don't want to get into a battle with the customer and risk a negative review.
How would you proceed?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

That stinks. But they shot off all their ammunition now so the balls in your court. Id just stick to telling them that you will refund when they ship the set back. I doubt they will. But then you will at least be able to put on a reply to their neg saying that you offered a full refund for the return but buyer wanted to keep it.
If you do get the set back and refund then send them a feedback revision request. If they dont send it back then wear the neg with pride.
Ive opened one new music CD in my life that had nothing inside although that was rare. I cant see the buyer doing this deliberately just to get disc 5 to replace a missing one because this is not a high value sale. If theey really wanted a fresh copy i would expect them to go get a blu-ray set these days. Maybe disc 5 really was missing?

Since the buyer hasn't filed a SNAD complaint, I wouldn't do anything.

I would NOT reply to that feedback.
Do nothing. For now.
Many consider feedback the End of the transaction.
(which only will change IF they open a SNAD)

Thank you for the feedback. I replied to the customer following your advice. You might be right that disc 5 is missing, but it just seems so bizarre.

I have had this happen 2 times recently with new sealed items , something was missing , they know you can't prove it wasn't, 99% percent of the people you come across selling stuff are fair people, could be it wasnt there but I really doubt it . Sucks but I would ask them to return item and refund then report buyer in case its a pattern for them. I also have a thrift store you should see what the customers do in there its crazy , someone would probaly open it up and bring up one disk and ask " how much for this " theres no price on it
