Paying seller fees on taxes as a NH resident? Legal?

This seems odd to me. I have never been affected by anything related to tax while conducting business in my state or online. Is it illegal to make me pay fees based on another states sales tax, when in conducting business online in my state of New Hampshire?

If so, eBay is the only place on earth doing this. I should be unaffected by all other states sales tax from what I understand.

It is legal.

It happens all of the time, when you have a credit card merchant account, your bank charges you the interchange fee on the sales tax you collect for other states.

One of the advantages to moving to NH from MA was I was no longer an unpaid tax collector for MA.

Now with Marketplace Taxes, I am still unpaid, but Ebay is the tax collector and I am paying them to do it.

Yesterday, my wife asked me "If you could choose what government activity you would channel your taxes to pay for?"

I had to think about that too long so she asked "Would it be the military?" I reluctantly said yes, but only reluctantly.

I have restated the question. "What government activity would you eliminate, rather than pay for with your taxes?" Do many of the posters here find that easier to answer?

What is being discussed here is state sales tax charged to the buyer in every state that has a state sales tax.  There are probably 46 states that do have a state sales tax.  This is the sales tax you pay when you make a purchase at WalMart, Lowe's, Home Depot etc.

It has nothing at all to do with Federal income tax which is handled by the Internal Revenue Service.
