Man I had been with eBay along time , then decided to cut all ties with them. So I thought I would give them a second chance and I am selling some things but I am very disappointed in them cutting ties with PayPal and other things, like collecting tax. When I bought the things I’m selling the TAX was paid for right then.. therefore there is no need for it to be taxed again….plus trying to dictate the price and the shipping. Sure do miss PayPal !!! I’ll try this again but I don’t think it’s going to work with eBay as they are being to political !

Marketplace facilitator laws require sales taxes be collected for online sales in about 43 states. Ebay was probably not happy about the huge burden imposed on them by these laws. They actually encouraged everyone to write their congressmen to prevent it.

It's not politics... it's policy. Roll with the changes... good luck to you.

ebay hasn't cut all ties with PayPal. Buyers can still use PayPal to pay. However, PayPal is no longer the payments processor for sellers, eBay is.

Collecting sales tax? eBay opposed this, but state legislatures throughout this great nation of ours realized they could get more revenue without actually increasing the sales tax rate (voters tend to notice tax rate increases, but requiring companies like ebay to collect sales tax goes unnoticed by the great majority of voters.) Politicians tend to love anything that raises revenue , as long as it isn't called a "tax increase."

Tax was done buy the states so they get (buyers) there---states------ money>

Used stuff is resale and what is payed for it and usually shipping (service) on top of that.

Tax of course depends on the state the purchaser is in...

Of course ignore suggested prices...

As for MP it aint great but it works and you can still make a buck.

You do know you are charged final value fees for

Item price. Plus

Shipping. Plus

Tax if any.

And then they take the final value fee from total of all of that...

Just so you know, so pricing can be adjusted as needed...

I don't.  Good riddance to PayPal.  If eBay "cut all ties" with PayPal, then you wouldn't be able to purchase postage through eBay using PayPal.  Go back into the history of the PayPal spinoff, study Carl Icahn and then eBay CEO Jon Donahue.  It's a pretty fascinating moment in time when they "negotiated".

Today, I would prefer to use a credit card purchasing shipping labels or pending/available funds rather than the PayPal option if you ask me.  Why give it to PayPal when I could get FF Miles, cash back, etc. on it.

Addressing your issue with eBay collecting state sales tax from buyers:

It's a law, not a choice that eBay made.  And the law was made by the legislature of the buyer's state.

The tax is on the transaction, not the item.

Do you never shop at thrift stores like GW, antique stores etc? Have you never bought a used car?

And, if state sales tax could only be collected on brand new items, how many bright, shiny, brand new widgets would we see listed as used on eBay?

eBay collects sales tax because the law requires them to collect sales tax.

plus trying to dictate the price

eBay does not dictate prices.

and the shipping.

eBay does not dictate shipping, aside from refusing to sell certain classes of postage in categories where the items are not eligible for it (e.g. media mail).

Maybe you should take a break until you can tell the difference between politics and business.
