Package to freight fowarder

Have a conundrum regarding a sale earlier this month. I sold an item to a customer that used a freight forwarder which isn't really a problem. However, the package was lost along the way. Now the post office says because it was mailed to a freight forwarder, they absolve themselves of any wrongdoing.

Thing is, the package was only going 10 blocks away from my business. I could have hand delivered it, but instead I paid the post office almost $5 to lose it. It was picked up and then instantly lost and now its been more than two weeks. I tried to open a missing mail claim and they tell me I can't. They will not let me open an insurance claim for the same reason. I could understand if the package was delivered, but they lost it. It's a $50 package too, so not all that cheap.

This is actually the second time in a year that USPS has lost a package going to a freight forwarder. The last time they wouldn't refund or look for the package either. All because the delivery address was a freight forwarder. I don't know why that matters when they lose the package along the way.

@simply_toyz

USPS is not losing them, they are refusing to scan upon delivery to the forwarder.  They are also are refusing to pay out on the insurance for "lost items" that do not show a delivery scan to a Freight Forwarder address.  These addresses are typically in Delaware, Florida, Oregon, Texas, NY, but not limited to those locations.

The last time we asked an eBay "blue" to comment on this issue here, which I believe was in the last three weeks, it was said that if there is no "delivery" scan to the forwarder address, the seller is responsible for INR.

It is quite unfortunate that , eBay does not provide relief for sellers in this instance where USPS becomes uncooperative.  I have not seen a USPS update regarding this problem, but have not recently reviewed their website rules either.  Another member here, said that they shipped UPS instead of USPS to freight forwarders now, and have been getting appropriate delivery scans with that method.  The problem overall seems to be intermittent with USPS, but some buyers see it as an opportunity to get free merchandise and it works just fine on eBay and we should expect it to continue.

eBay does not allow a seller to cancel for "problem with address" if the only problem is a freight forwarder was used.  However, given the nature of the present eBay bot system in place that does not recognize a freight forwarder address anyway for purposes of "item not as described" complaints which should not be allowed in the first place according to the rules, one might get a by with the "problem with address" so long as buyers don't raise a fuss .

I was under the impression that if you ship it to the address on the ebay label, whether it be a freight forwarder. a business, or grandma's house, you are covered.  No?

@inhawaii

It is USPS refusing to scan "delivered" parcels to freight forwarder addresses.  They refuse to give information about the parcels location via inquiries, and deny insurance claims for INR since the parcels were shipped to a "third party" freight forwarder.  USPS seeming has absolved themselves of any/all responsibility for this.  See my previous message #16.

This problem with USPS has been reported here off and on for a few months now.

How does the usps know that the address they are dropping it off to is a freight forwarder?

Well I am not sure regarding the most recent package and whether it was delivered without a delivery scan as this one was in my state already, but I doubt it was delivered. The other freight forwarder package lost earlier this year was lost somewhere in Texas and the delivery address was in Florida.

What I find interesting is they won't honor a claim, but take your money for a service not provided.

Then they send all the previously lost and undeliverable mail on pallets to auction and receive even more money for something that was never theirs to begin with.

You can find videos all over the internet of people opening lost mail they purchased in bulk. Hardly seems right when USPS benefits from doing a poor job.

I would love to use UPS, but the cost outweighs the benefits. I would end up losing more money than just dealing with the missing packages. I never used to have this issue with USPS or not nearly as often.  I guess i'm just stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I want to provide good service to my customers, but USPS won't give me the same in return as their customer.
