Order was returned as "Return to Sender"

I sold a phone on the first of February. It went to Phoenix, and the mail carrier marked it "Return to Sender". The lady had just moved, a few doors down, and she had given a change of address to the post office AND she changed her address in eBay, as well. She said that she would gladly pay me for the postage to return it. I sent it back to her today, and she wants to know if she can pay me for the postage through PayPal. Well, I said 'yes' but she would need my email address, which eBay doesn't allow us to give out.

We are not trying to run any sort of scam and I am NOT selling her anything outside of eBay. I'm just trying to re-route her order BACK to her, and she wants to pay me for the postage.

HOW can we do this?

On Order Details, the Buyer's Phone Number is there. I would call, leave a polite msg that you are the eBay Phone Seller, regarding re-shipment of the Phone.

@computoriteYou can message her via ebay messaging and ask for her Paypal username. You don't need to give her your email address. You can then create an invoice on Paypal for the shipping and send it to her. If the buyer had the new address on ebay, the label should have printed to the correct address. Did you confirm with her that the address she moved to was updated on ebay? Sometimes they have a tech glitch.

I had 2 people in the last month ask to pay for expedited shipping after they had paid, and they messaged on ebay with their Paypal username and it was allowed and we didn't get the Warning! message. You can call as suggested by @genv. From what I've seen, if the transaction had been completed on ebay, they don't  issue a warning. If you try to exchange info before the sale is complete, they assume you're trying to take the sale outside of ebay.

If ebay offered the ability to invoice people like Paypal does, we would happily use them for it.

It would have been better had you had her repurchase it using the correct address. But outside of that. Unless things have changed. Others have posted that you are allowed to hand out PayPal info soas to get paid after the fact since eBay doesn't have a way to handle that themselves. May be worth verifying with eBay though via the eBay for Business Facebook page.

But is useful for cases such as giving a refund on an item that the buyer never received and then paying for it via PayPal when they receive it weeks later.

eBay does allow you to give out your email address if there has already been a sale.

Did she file a change of address request with her local post office?

When she paid, did she make sure the correct address was on the invoice?

Yes, and yes. That was the first thing I Asked her.

There is sometimes a 'lag' in the time the person fills out the card & when mail gets re-routed.

Thank you. I have called, but she may be at work, so I'll try again a bit later.  The package had the correct address on it, but she says the PO has been doing weird things lately, and I have seen that, too, here at my end. For instance, packages/mail with different names being delivered to the wrong town!  I guess the pandemic is causing all sorts of problems.

Depending on the cost of shipping it back and if you feel like going through the effort. It may be possible to get the post office to resend it on their dime because it should have been rerouted. Although, it's also possible that they treat it as more of a courtesy.

Might be worth asking about at least.
