Did you mean:

Operating expenses

Seems to me Ebay is using their 'operating expenses'  as a reason to charge for using their site.

PayPal, same thing.

This is nothing more than a 'TAX' on the buyers and sellers.

If you sell something to a customer that is in your state and the state requires their tax, you are in triple jeopardy.

You are 'taxed' by Ebay, PayPal and the state gets their sales tax cut.

A sale in New York: Ebay, 10%

                                       PayPal, 3% + .30 per transaction

                                       New York sales tax, 8.48%

TOTAL: 21.48% of YOUR sale !

Agreed. There are an infinite number of unprofitable ways to sell on eBay, but they do not affect those of us who have found a way to be profitable.

Here's my most consistent seller on eBay right now:

$9.00 item price

$2.95 shipping charge

--------

$11.95 received

--------

$2.66 shipping cost

$0.25 packing materials

$1.20 eBay fees

$0.65 PayPal fees

$0.25 item cost

--------

$6.94 profit

That's 77% of the selling price, after all expenses including the COGs.
