A buyer would not walk into his favorite department store and ask this question. None of my buyers on Amazon (where I sell the same product) ask these kinds of questions. Only on eBay do I receive inquiries about a sealed pack of 10 items where the buyer says (paraphrased), "I need 12. Can you open one of the packs and sell me just what I need? If not and I'm forced to buy 2 packs, will you accept an offer so I'm only paying for the 12 I need?"
Share your "only on eBay" buyer requests. You guys must get them, too.

Sorry I can't assume any responsibility for shrinkage. I'm unable to measure it at this time. The prices are firm. Have a nice day!
Just to get everyone off your case. You can keep them blocked 😉
Or maybe I'll reply to ebay and tell them that I'll promise to contact that buyer again soon much like ebay promises to call you back after they find more info on your issue (and never do). 🙂

No they just lie item not as described. Get all their $ back. + cost me shipping. A perfectly good item back. Or try a scam return. With 0 feedback buyers trying to ruin your ratings. I sure hope e bay can see the wrong. And start backing their sellers better. But you know it will never happen. You are right some buyer make stupid buying decisions. When they do it with me. I look at it as. They know I am poor. They just tying to help me. Ignorance is a virtue on e bay . lol

@bigdeals.etc wrote:Awhile ago when I tried to entertain messaged negotiation offers (probably the reason why I don't anymore), I get this buyer asking about a $20 dollar item (w $5 shipping) if I would accept $10 with free shipping.
I politely messaged that is even below my cost and countered with $15 with paid $4 shipping (24% off). The buyer replies with a "Forget it. Stop wasting my time."
I would have been tempted to channel Rush Limbaugh and reply "ditto"

Selling custom curtains listed at cream (off white color).
Buyer: can you please get a Benjamin Moore paint sample of " xxxx color "and take photos indoors and out with it next to this specific paint. And tell me if it reads brown or gray.
I responded as politely as possible. Lol
It is hard enough to view paint online and now she wants complete design services on eBay. These curtains were NEITHER BROWN NOR GRAY to begin with.
This is why designers charge consult fees
I've had potential buyers ask me to take a photo of the widget (pottery/glass) next to a specific paint sample and send them the photo as well.
Nope. sorry.

I'm always tempted to respond with some equally insane request , like:
It will be especially difficult to sell the remaining 8 items so I will need your assistance in locating another buyer that would be willing to buy the remaining 8. If you can't find one buyer for the remaining 8 maybe you can find 8 more sellers that each want one... To save on paypal processing fees, you will have to purchase the entire lot from me as listed and then split them up amongst the buyers you have found.
Does that work for you?

Oh, believe me, they do. I get that sort of question all the time at my B&M retail job. "I know this comes in a set of four, but I only need one. Can you take the set apart so I can buy one?"

Hahaha. That totally reminds me of this Chris Rock movie scene https://youtu.be/tgHcYxKjwVE
"How much for one rib?"

I never knew sellers have to stock paint color samples.
New requirement? 😉 lol

@moldy5 wrote:I've had a few weird requests similar to those but more in my favor. One lady asked before buying if she could buy only the 2 jokers from a sealed deck of playing cards. For the price of the full deck! Another wanted only 7 of the ancient empty spice jars from a 2 dozen set. Also for the full price. I was quite doubtful when they messaged me first but accepted their requests (and payments) . Both were very happy with their items. You never know!
I've had that happen a few times with recipe book lots. A buyer will want only one or two of the lot and they're willing to pay the asking price of the lot. Like you, I was skeptical, but the sales went off without a hitch! I did discount the price a bit for them anyway, and was able to eventually resell the remaining lots, so it was all good.

Lol. This made me think of my part time job at the supermarket. I will often get requests from customers who don't want to buy a whole package of chicken. They will say I only need two pieces & will complain to management when I say sorry we can't do that. 😄

Stamps, I sell groups of 100 different for $14.99 shipping included. I had a guy wanted a lot and he told me what he wanted (The good stuff) and didn't want (The common or cheap stuff)
Then he finished, "Of course I can't pay 14 cents per stamp"
I blocked him as quickly as I could type.
I only want the above average to unique! is this possible? 😄
