Hi my name is Greg and I just wanted to say something about the offer system. It used to be where you could make an offer on a sellers item and it would be accepted or declined. Or, if you so choose you could make a counter offer. Now Ebay, in all of it's wisdom, decided it would be a good idea to have buyer's "request" offers from sellers in order to make it easier to sell an item. This has never been farther from the truth. The fact is it makes it harder. Most of the offers I send back are declined. Plus they are not declined in any civil kind of way. Actually you are just ignored without knowing the out come other that your item does not get sold. what I want to know is why sellers are not allowed to see who is making the offer. They are anonymous. So you can't message them or do anything else to "encourage' the buyer to buy your item. The sad fact is that buyers are tight wads. Any offer is always for half or less of what an item, for me it is magazines, sells for in a saner more normal world. I for one am not bowing to the "Dooms day apocalypse" group who decide your item is no longer valuable because of a pandemic. I would rather keep my things than sell them for a panic driven reduced price.

Why don't you get to see the ID the offer goes to?
Because eBay does not want you to have any potential buyer info. Keep info/sales on eBay.
Because I do not want you to have any of my info before purchase. Privacy.

Well, you've confused me. (Or you've told me of something new... IDK) As a seller, when I send offers, I can see who the offers were sent to. I sell BIN/OBO, and when I receive an offer, I can see who sent it to me. I can also see previous offers (sent or received) in the Offer History. Has that changed?

When we get an offer, as far as I know, we can see the offer ID.
Last time I sent "offers" there was no ID shown as to who the offer went to. That was by the "send offer" option.
I even had one listing where I could "review offers" that would not show the ID that it was sent to even though the offer was sent as a "reply with offer" after being messaged by a potential buyer. As I state, I knew the buyer ID because it was a reply offer, by it was still encrypted when I checked on it.

If there's ONE thing ebay hasn't messed up, it's the offer system. Not sure what the gripe is.

Well....its a guarantee they will now after this thread was started!!! 🤣

@rldavis2001 Yeah I agree with @mtgraves7984 in that I'm not seeing or aware of the changes you are stating here. I am both a seller and a buyer. As a seller I continue to receive offers from buyers showing their ID. As a buyer I continue to send offers where the send offer button is activated. I don't know why you are seeing things differently.
Regarding no responses on offers, that is up to each particular seller. The majority of my offers are accepted, very rarely do I get a counter. Just recently I sent two offers to two different sellers. One accepted immediately and we completed the transaction. The other never responded to my offer, which then timed out.
Apparently that seller would rather pay listings fees and just keep posting. My offer was for $8 lower than original price and when that item did not sell it was relisted at $5 lower than original price. Had the seller countered me with $5, I would have accepted, instead they want to play that game, so I moved on and their item is still listed- yes I'm continuing to watch it out of curiosity. I won't be surprised when seller lowers it to my original offer....

I'm perplexed. I even click on the offer's ID to check their purchase history, feedback left for others, etc. Hmmm...

Well, again, I see the ID when an offer is sent by a buyer, but when going from the "tasks" in the sellers hub there is no indication of the ID's that the offers were sent to other than a *aatx* type of ID unless it was "accepted".

Hi, Greg - I'm a little confused (not an uncommon state for me) - are you talking about the 'send offers to interested buyers' (those watching your item)? Watchers are anonymous, and sending offers to 'interested buyers' is generally just a shot in the dark, at least for me. Some take me up on it, most don't, and I never know who I'm sending the offers to. There's a text box to write a message with the offer for a little encouragement.
If that's not what you're asking, then never mind lol.

As a seller I would like to send offers to watchers. I do not have that option. It says all my auctions are not eligible to send offers to watchers. I am seller with auction or best offer. Any idea why I am not allowed the option to send offers to watchers? As a buyer I receive offers from sellers minutes after watching items.
TIA for any insight as to how I can send offers to potential buyers.
