Offers over Buy it Now price then asking for a text to pay

Hi - This week I've had numerous offers over the amount of my Buy it Now price on 2 auctions.  Once the offer is accepted I receive a message asking me to text them to set up payment.  The message also asks me to state the name of the item.  I've responded that I only accept paypal and only communicate through Ebay.  HELP!!!  One item sold several days ago and no payment has been made.  If it's a scam, how do I report it?  Does Ebay screen messages for things like this?

It’s a scam! You can call eBay and report. Don’t know if it will help or not. Open an unpaid item case.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

Good catch - this is a big ole red flag scam. They are targeting you because they suspect you are new to eBay and a new seller. You might want to put them on you Blocked Buyer List and open an unpaid item case. I would avoid chit chat with them as they are feeling you out to see how to manipulate. Don't text them and only used the eBay message system if necessary.

Sounds wrong to me for a few reasons and I think the best thing is to call ebay ASAP for their advice. I always address problems immediately and call Ebay when I'm unsure how to proceed. Smiley Happy

@robe_9912

Why would a buyer offer you more than the Buy It Now price?

-Because they think you'll be blinded by the money and fall for their scam to send a PP invoice.  All they are trying to get is your PP email addy so you'll get a fake "You've been paid - now ship" email.

Don't entertain these people.  Start the unpaid process ASAP (48 hours after the "win")
