Number of listings per day

Hi everyone, I just started selling on ebay last month and had a question about number of listings per day. I've read that the ebay algorithm likes lots of constant activity (i.e. posting all or most days as opposed to many postings on one day only). But does anyone know if there is a better day to post more as opposed to less? For example, is it better to post 2 listings each day during the week and then 3 or 4 per day on the weekend? Or does it not matter. I know the more listings overall the better but if i can't post the same number each day has anyone found days that are better overall?

Also if anyone can take a quick look at my store and give me any constructive criticism or what can be improved, I would appreciate it!

Number of listings per day

Several years ago there was a thread that said Strive for Five, meaning new listings per day.

Nothing offically from Ebay itself, but just a lot of blogs and forums I have been reading about reselling on Ebay that listing more consistently seems to work better for them

Thank you so much for bringing that to my attention! I am wondering why it did this?? Last night I got home and checked and all the listings on my end said local pickup AND shipping available so I'm not sure why that would come up? Has this ever happened to you? Should I remove local pickup from all my listings all together?

"postcards showed up a couple weeks ago"? did Ebay just start selling postcards or is it something else?

It was stated on the forum here by one of the mods, but I can't remember where now - it was some months ago.  I remember because were a lot of facetious (maybe) posts afterwards about getting lollipops and participation trophies or something  (I'm trying NOT to believe that the posters were thinking that eBay rewards THEM for being on the site, it's just that activity is one of the algorithmic operations along with recency, relevancy, listing quality, etc.).

I generally won't do local pick up for security reasons. I have heard of instances of sellers being attacked or robbed at their own home just by opening their door. I would remove pick up in your case you maybe losing sales over it.

Not necessarily. I list things many times in the evening to have them sell a few hours later. Sometimes things sell within a few minutes if someone has a saved search for one of my keywords. The search is obviously doing something if these things are selling so fast...

Notifications for saved searches are sent out once per day, not immediately.  More likely your item is being found by members who sort their search results by "Newest first."

Indexing can take up to 24 hours, a lot depends on which category.  When I sort my own searches by "Newest first," I often see items that have been listed within the past few minutes.

Many of your items seem to say pick up only. You might want to work out why.

I see shipping in list view, and nothing regarding shipping in gallery view, but going into the listing  shows  Local  pickup available and also a shipping charge.

About as many times as I have seen someone post that they are listing more items and their sales went down.

And about as many times as I have seen someone post that they are listing more items and their sales stayed the same.

What's the difference between activity, recency, relevancy, listing quality etc? I first thought that the only activity on the site was listing items per day but a lot of people are saying its much more than that

Those are all just components in search and search engine optimisation, i.e., how easily someone finds your listing in search and is it something that they are looking for. Optimising your listing means using the tools to make it as easily fetched with relevant keywords and as desirable to those individuals finding it as possible.

No one knows how much each of these components weight in eBay's algorithm (or google's or anything else), only that they are basic components to any search.  Recency would be fresh content, relevance would be how well a listing matches a search query or IF it matches any search query (i.e., good keywords, etc.).  Listing quality - keywords, photos (I read at an eBay Open that 7 photos is optimal but I rarely have that many), seller score ranks up there, too. The CTO (can't remember his name) who implemented Cassini stated that the search crawls the entire listing, including the description.

It gets kind of dense so all I do is try to make various aspects of my listing as good as possible, keep things fresh (i.e., no old listings - even really long tail stuff I refresh) and keep listing on a very regular basis (not really possible right now).  I personally think that a lot of listing quality is serving one's own particular market best, so in clothing I'll have something different than someone selling collectibles, or electronics, or whatever.

Thank you for explaining all that I really appreciate it! I have been trying to work on the best titles and search relevancy lately so my listings will be seen more and more.

It absolutely does not take 24 hours to appear in search
