What is EBAY doing about people who bid, but never pay?

It happens about 10-20% of the time.  People just don't pay.

I know EBAY doesn't care, but it's a pain.

Don't forget to configure your buyer requirements if you haven't already. You can automatically block people from buying if they have had 2 unpaid item strikes in the last 12 months. Also check the box so they can't message you. It is a pain, but it is one of the few good tools they give us.

Buyer Requirements:

You can also block them from buying altogether unless they make more accounts to circumvent blocks and policy violations:

Pretty much nothing.

But you can set your preferences to bar anyone with 2 or more unpaids in the last year.

And sellers need to do their part and file (you can set it up automatically so it happens by itself).

Yup. Sounds like you have a good grasp of how it works.

Are you filing Unpaid Item Disputes (UIDs)? Are you blocking bidders who have had two or more UIDs in the last 12 months?

Here is eBay policy on non payers.

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/payment-policies/unpaid-item-policy?id=4271

The  seller needs to open a NPI case and close it so the NPI is recorded on the buyers account.  Buyer who collect too many can be terminated but  they  have to be reported by the seller. Sellers can set the strictest no of NPI in a given period to help reduce the number of NPI..

If you sell via fixed price listings you  can set a n Immediate Payment Requirement - we  have several years ago = no more unpaid.

yeah loan companies, credit card companies, utility companies  etc. would  luv to  have zero non payers but they don't.

Aside from giving sellers the option to list at fixed price with immediate payment required, they are doing nothing.

Over the past two decades, it seems pretty clear that eBay has intentionally chosen to make it as easy as possible for buyers to purchase here.  eBay does not verify the buyer's identity, and eBay does not force the buyer to give eBay access to their payment source without it being initiated by the buyer.

Unlkess eBay changes this stance, there is really nothing that eBay can do to stop non-payers because a buyer can simply change accounts and wipe the slate clean. They leave it in the hands of the seller to change his listings if he so chooses.

ebay stopped caring a long time ago when they took away the BBL button from the dispute console,it was easy, you closed out the NPB and added the bidder to your BBL all in one or two easy steps,it was simple, easy to do,ebay has taken away the fastest option ever for the deabeats, bring it back ebay

You’re selling in a fickle category. Millennials are used to being able to return and change their minds.

BTW if you are buying and selling the same things on the same ID,that can lead to a world of hurt if you annoy someone.
