Am I missing something, or did the option to crop photos as square (which used to be the default ratio the cropping tool would use, and holding shift would preserve it if you moved or resized the cropped area) completely disappear in the new listing tool? Holding shift preserves the current aspect ratio, but that's now whatever the photo started as, not square. That takes away a very useful tool. We can certainly shift to taking our photos all in square, but that doesn't help with my plan to edit old listings to use square photos since we have learned that ebay is shifting to displaying photos in the square format.

Greetings, not sure we are talking about the same thing, but I tried using the remove background feature in the photo section. It seemed to work. I think for books and magazines it would work well. I did have a few odd, shaped items and part of the item vanished.

No, we're not looking to remove the backgrounds. We take photos on a white background, and while removing the backgrounds seems cool, I haven't found it to work well enough to be worthwhile. I just want the photos to be square instead of rectangular. I guess we'll just have to focus on making sure new ones are square and not worry about the old listings, or else take the time to pull them into an external editor.
