If eBay had any good sense, they would just contact a buyer with an item in their cart and offer a 5% discount, take only 5% from the seller, and let the sell be made, those people ain't got No Skin in the Game anyway, lol

Sellers already have the ability to lower prices on items in carts. From what I recall, most sellers who have posted here about that feature have reported that it DOESN'T work.

I have used it with some success. About 15-20% of selected items. Cherry picking them, so to speak.

If eBay were doing that, behind the scene, and eating the 5%, we would all be seeing an increase in sales.

 

Extending offers to buyers just showed up on this account

today and I sent out a dozen of those to see what might cha ching.

By your logic if sellers did it themselves they would also see an increase in sales.

 

It would certainly be nice if eBay reimbursed sellers for the discounts they offered, but I can also see why this will never happen.
