I am pretty new to the Ebay selling world. I thought I was getting to know things pretty well until I was put back in my seat today. I just figured out that EBay takes the sales tax paid by my buyer. Ok, fine. So why am I paying EBay 15% of the total amount including the sales tax? I do not receive the sales tax so why am I paying for it? Not really venting, as I am appreciative. Just kind of shocked.

Because that is the way eBay decided to do it to get the revenue they desired. They could have continued to exclude the fee on Sales Tax and instead just raised the overall rate by 1%.
Pretty much the same thing as "free shipping".

The 15% fee (processing fee) is for the total sale not just the "item" price. Ex. price of item + tax +shipping & handling. You would pay the fee on any upgrades to the listing or paid promotions as well. Btw eBay also not only collects sales tax but also remits that tax to your buyer's state as well so you don't have the headache of having to do so (which you ARE required to do)! In addition, this is will apply in most other marketplaces you sell on and occurs at stores you shop at when you use a C.C or debit card.
