New item page format

Yesterday, ebay changed the format of the item page (the page you open when you click on an item for sale), at least on my account.  This new format is annoying to me.  Junky and wasteful in space.  It works poorly on a computer screen; I assume it was developed to work on those tiny cell phone screens.  Many of us don't use cell  phones.

There doesn't appear  to be any way to back out of this (bad) new format.

Would you post a pic please, so we make sure we are talking about the same thing.

@mam98031

Here is a pic of what I believe the OP is talking about...

As opposed to...

It is most unattractive... at least on a laptop.

OK, I know you can't hear me, but I'm laughing, rolling my eyes, crying a little and if I wasn't about to head off to bed, I'd grab a glass of wine.  So I could WHINE some more.

I say all that because the wide open spaces that and the undefined areas are some of the same complaints I had about the new FB pages.  I hate them.  Fortunately for me [and others I'm sure] Ebay actually improved the new design on the FB pages to incorporate some of the changes I brought up on the Chats.

But there was a great post my Trinton to me on the 10/23 chat.  Now I am ABSOLUTELY confident he meant no disrespect to me or anyone else.  And he said it in such a way, he was a gentle with me as he could be.  But he told me I was old.  Yep, the young ones like all that white and undefined spaces.  It is the way of the future or something.

I'll share with you what he said, but I really don't want anyone attacking him in any way.  He truly meant no disrespect and said it is such a kind and gentle way.  Honestly after I read it I couldn't stop laughing for the longest time.

Hi @mam98031, I will be sure to pass this along to the appropriate teams. I can confirm that moving uncommonly used links lower on the page is a common practice and while I understand some sellers regularly use these options, overall these are not utilized by our Community so moving them lower makes sense. Additionally, when looking at the feedback page and hitting the "End" button on my keyboard, I am taken to the bottom of the page immediately and can see the links you are referencing. You may need to scroll up slightly depending on the resolution of your screen.

As for white space, while this does seem to raise concerns for more tenured buyers and sellers as they experienced a very different design focus on maximizing space and standing out in the earlier days of eBay, the market has shifted and the current market expectation is more focused on a minimalistic objective. Open white space is optimal for formatting on a mobile platform, generally creates less eye strain, and has become the industry standard.

This doesn't mean we can't make changes if needed. I'll pass along the feedback here for consideration and appreciate everyone sharing examples

I laughed, too, when I read Trinton's response during chat.

I guess I am getting closer to being " more tenured", or maybe I already am, but in denial.  Anyway, I like the new design.  Too me it looks fresh, crisp and uncluttered.  To my eyes, the focal point of the page is the photo and I like that.

To me certain important facts don't stand out like they use to.  Things just blend together.  My "tenured" eyes don't focus in on the various areas as easily.  On the upside, you do have to pay more attention to see all the info in front of you as it is too easy to miss something.

A good example is the FB page for sellers.  While the did update the new design with most of the things that I and others suggested, they still have one important thing to take care of IMHO.  Because everything is just black and white with a lot of white space between things.  The fact that a seller may be TRS, which you can only see on their FB page, just blends in as an unimportant detail.  It needs to stand out more like it use to.  It should be something that is prominent on the page.

Bless his heart...more tenured...

I would have just said older, or maybe long term...or old geezers...or in the case of some of us, miserable old farts.  There's a reason I'm not in the diplomacy business.  upside_down

That said, the next time hubby complains about getting older (he's 70), I'm just going to tell him not to think about it as getting older, he's just becoming more tenured.
