At first I was excited for the new ebay change and providing the seller with a free label, but now that I am in the program which was delayed over release, I would rather have the old method.
They charge the buyer nearly $15 for shipping which discourages sales and does not allow for sellers with free shipping to stand out. Most of the shoes beforehand I could ship for $9-$10 label and $1-$2 in packing materials. Now with Fedex (who I try my hardest to avoid since they falsely charge extra MANY things after you ship), I also have to buy more boxes to ship the shoes, where as USPS you could get free boxes if using priority shipping, which was usually close to the cheapest option. And there is no fedex drop box near me and half to travel double the distance as I would with USPS. So ebay charges the buyer more, and leaves the seller out of collecting any money for shipping materials and boxes. Sounds like a win ONLY for ebay so they can collect more money.

I have to agree. I am being forced to use the authentication system and FedEx. I sold my first pair with this recently. I checked on fedex website where to go to print label and drop off. I travel there. The guy says they can’t print QR labels. So I have to go across town to the next place. They print the label but refuse my packaging as it has printing on it. They then offer me a free shipping bag which they say is for this program, except the bag is very small and SHOES don’t fit in it. Then the FedEx guy tries to charge me for a FedEx box, at which point I lose my Sh*t. Meanwhile ebay happily let a seller who sold me FAKE oakleys off scott free. I’m a genuine seller, I don’t sell fake stuff, I don’t need the hassle of going to FedEx when usps collect for free, having to pay for FedEx boxes because they refuse your own boxes and the designated bag won’t fit shoes inside (!), higher cost (extra eBay fees for me and higher shipping cost for buyer), delay in receiving for my buyer… there should be an opt out option. It looks like it’s simply geared to make eBay & FedEx money. Not good at all so far.

Did you ever find a good solution for this issue? I am going through the same thing right now. I'm out of the money ebay is charging the buyer for shipping. And I can't do anything with a free fedex label, I am no where near a fedex drop off location and I'm not spending more money and time using a different carrier and different shipping supplies. ebay authenticity guarantee program is the worst.
