It is March 30th. The new PLS rules regarding Direct and Halo sales are now in effect.
Also, as of today, a buyer is now said to have "viewed" a Promoted Listing even if he has not clicked through to the listing, as long as he clicked the "heart" to put the item on his watch list. (This change impacts both PLS and PLA fees.)
Both of these changes expand the number of sales that can be treated as a PLS sale.
IF you use PLS , you should familiarize yourself with these changes if you haven't already.

@shag182 yup, the funny part? That ad is so old it isn't even correct...read it it says $100 but go to your seller hub overview, the ad there says $500 - and I'm still not doing it, they can try all they want, what will do is end PLS and not do anything.

Smells like a pile of doggy you know what, and hopefully where..... so as to not step in it.

Next month: "if a buyer breathes oxygen, its considered a promoted sale at highest rate possible"
I would NOT be surprised if that happens. FEEbay is more shadier than a CAR STEALERSHIP from their playbook... HOW TO RIP PEOPLE OFF.

Weird you're seeing the old ad. The $100 is the latest one.
The $500 credit was an old promotion (when I clicked on it at the time it told me I wasn't eligible, but it still shoved it in my face for over a month lol)

It would be fun to sit in on the meetings where this stuff is dreamed up. They wouldn't want me there. I was a you know what in committee meetings when I worked for the man.

For those who aren't clear on the change about clicking the heart:
The screen shot shows a search results page on a PC. Note the items that say Sponsored at the bottom. Note the little heart outline at the top right of the image. Before today, in order to be considered a "click", a potential buyer would have had to click the item itself and go through to the view item page. As of today, if the buyer merely clicks that heart outline (which puts the item on his watch list), even if the buyer never clicks through to look at the view item page, that action is now considered a "click".
So, for PLA, that click---on the heart--- will cost the seller because PLA is a pay per click ad.
For PLS, that heart click will be treated the same as clicking through to actually look at the listing, which means if the buyer buys the item within 30 days, or (under the new rules) buys another of your items that is in a PLS campaign, you will end up paying the PLS fee.

It's starting to feel like that old saying that the only way to win is not to play.

i would say it's right on par for ebay, they can't get anything right, even show the correct/current promotion. Idk what one is right, don't care, cause I'm not doing it, but it being wrong doesn't surprise me in the least.

I'm hoping the ebay Ads Team will provide replies to questions asked in this thread, but in the meantime, if you are wondering about the value of Promoted Listings, the Ads Team has a Press Release to remind everyone just how great PLs are:
No mention of the most recent change.

devon@ebay This is from the Announcement. Can you ask the ads team to clarify this?
- The new definition of a click includes engagement with features and functionality of your ads, such as a buyer’s click on the heart icon to add an item to their watchlist. ....
In the past, a "click" was defined as the buyer actually clicking through to the view item page. Now, that definition has been expanded. But reading that sentence from the announcement, it appears that "a buyer's click on the heart icon to add an item to their watchlist" is only ONE example of the expansion.
This sentence seems pretty clearly to indicate that a heart click is not the only "engagement" that will be considered a "click".
So, what OTHER actions constitute an "engagement with features and functionality of your ads"?
Since these changes start today, a prompt answer would be appreciated.
Hey @my-cottage-books-and-antiques! I have reached out to the correct team on this and here is what was shared:
"We have expanded our definition of a click to include clicks on Add to Watch (i.e., listing heart icon) for both Promoted Listings Standard and Advanced. No other engagements are included in the model at this time ."

devon@ebay Thanks! Could you ask a follow up question? :
If and when they add other engagements to the model, will we be notified, and what form will the notification take?

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques ironically that's not a press release - it's sponsored content.
That means eBay literally took out a paid ad to make sure something positive about Promoted Listings would be blasted to the world on the same day this new money grab policy went into effect...you just can't make this stuff up. 😂
I also really like how they just casually mention Promoted Display ads in their paid ad but adsteam@ebay still apparently can't be bothered to answer any of our questions or provide any information about those ads.

Even the experienced sellers are having difficulty grasping the new Halo sales and the dynamic rates. It's become difficult to promote, therefore sellers are removing and lowering PL rates. PLS isn't working that great anyway. Less sellers promoting = less eBay PL income.

How the times have changed!!!
In bygone years eBay was a place to do a little shopping. Maybe stick around (with a seller) and do a little more. Have your item arrive AS DESCRIBED "hopefully" because your seller did their job and then leave some uplifting feedback for you. The old normal.
Now it's gone to having a buyer check out a listing and then being directed elsewhere caused by myriad of clicks and Ads here and there. Will you see that buyer ever again? Only if they happen to click on a heart or if something REALLY caught their eye. In my mind it has all become a giant blur!!! And now will your buyer leave feedback...Maybe!!! Most likely though, only if something happened for that transaction to go off the rails. Not always, but more the new normal!!!! Very sad!!!
