New Listing identifier

Sometimes when I post a new item for sale it shows NEW LISTING highlighted in gray, but sometimes not. Why triggers eBay to post this identifier? His long does this identifier remain?

Hi, where is it that you see the NEW LISTING identifier? In Search results? With a little more information, we might be able to figure it out.

When I do a search for my posting, as if I were a customer, on the page that returns similar items, my item sometimes says NEW LISTING highlighted in gray next to  the title of my item.

The "new listing" identifier appears on search results for 24 hours IIRC.

Why not always, I do not know.
