Need help understanding Best Match

I have been trying to figure out why other listings are ranking higher on Best Match than mine.

If you search for "stainless power tube brush" my listing was coming in at #5. After speaking with numerous CSR's I changed (simplified) the title and it is now coming in at #2. I then changed the title to exactly match the #1 listing and I am still at #2

My item is the same number of brushes and same price as the number 1 match. I am confused because of the following points:

1. I am a TSRplus, #1 seller is not.

2. I offer fast and free, #1 seller does not

3. I offer 30 day returns, #1 seller does not offer returns

4. I have a store, #1 seller does not

5. I have had 51 sales of the item, #1 has had no sales as far as the listing shows

I thought all of the above points were supposed to give better placement in best match. To add insult to injury the #1 listing copied large parts of my description, but I don't really care too much about that.

So I did learn that the title does have a large impact even if it is less descriptive.

Does anyone have any ideas on why my listing does not come in at #1 on best match?

I am going to try lowering the price and see if that changes the placement.

Maybe because yours looks generic, while #1 is a brand name.

I just posted a thread about this same issue but for boys formal suits. if I leave out the word "size" but put in the size # it comes up first page

if I put the word size in and the # it does not show up at all

use your item specifics for added description words. use description title words in your description area.
The search is wacky!! Not everyone can be first or on the first page at the same time. I searched boys navy blue formal suits and got everything but my listing including womens dresses in navy blue.

Wacky!

Maybe, but the brand name is not in the title or description of the #1 listing.

CSR I spoke to said simpler titles get best match, but I thought the conventional wisdom was to cram as much info in the title as you can.

In my case I simplified the title be butting the qty at the end of the title and taking out the "made in USA" and moved from 5th to second in best match. I'm trying it on my other listings to see what happens.
