Need clarification on how auction work.
I normally use just my store's 'free' 1,000 fixed listings, but have started to use it's 250 'free' auction monthly listings.
I click the checkbox 'Automatically relist this item up to 8 times if it doesn't sell. No insertion or optional listing upgrade fees for each relist'...so those auction listings will 'renew' every ten days, for up to 8 times(80 days total), for free?
What about the 'insertions'...does every 'renew' count as another insertion? If so, then that means that my 250 'free' listings per month is really only 83 'free' listings per month(83 listings 'renewed' every ten days from the first of the month=2 renewals, and 83X3=249.
Or, are the 'insertion fees' included in that checkbox?
The checkbox does say 'No insertion or optional listing upgrade fees for each relist', but it does NOT say 'No insertion FEES or optional listing upgrade fees for each relist'. Somewhat confusing.
Bottom line...what will happen if I have 250 free auctions(with the checkbox checked), that I started on the first of the month...they will 'renew' on the 11th for free, or will there be whatever the current auction listing fee is charge times 250?
Anyone know?
Thanks!

Thanks everyone for the input....still not absolutely sure of how it works...I'll let my remaining 39 auctions get used up and see what happens when the ones I currently have get renewed.

Short answer: each renewal counts as one of your 250 free auctions. I mean, I think that's what you're asking. 🤔

A renewal is the same a as a new listing.
They are just doing it automatically so you don't have to .
An item should sell before being listed 8 times.

Very true. It is an auction and should never have to be relisted more than 2x max. Any more than that it is what I call a "pretend" auction. ( a BIN disguised as an auction).

So, it is really only 83 'free' listings per month. On the 1st of the month, 83 are used, then on the 10th/11th day, another 83 are used(if none sell), then on 20th/21st, another 83 are used(if none sell), for a total of 249 used. Is that how it works?

Yes. 250 free auctions. The same as it works for @popch3. At #83 x 3... you'll have one leftover. 250-249=1.

Ah, OK, thanks. I wonder why eBay has the checkbox 'Automatically relist this item up to 8 times if it doesn't sell. No insertion or optional listing upgrade fees for each relist', if it's not actually true? I interpret this to mean I can list 250 'free' auctions on the first, and let them relist up to 8 times, every 10 days, with no additional fees. Or, am I reading it wrong? Is there anyway to get an eBay employee to make an official statement on this?
Thanks!

There's this...

My understanding, and by my experience, when I had that offer it was indeed just as it said,,,,,,............... "free".
None of my "listing allotment" was used for relisting when the box was checked where it was stated as "relist up to 8 times free".

Hmmm...only offered to new sellers? How much time has to pass when one is no longer a 'new seller'? I've been selling since the late '90's.

Thanks for the link....yikes, a lot of 'double-talk'...I think that I'll just wait 6 days, and see if my remaining 39 'free' auctions get used up when my current 206 auctions start ending and relisting. If I see the 39 used up, and listing fees(what? .25 now?) being posted, I'll just end all the rest of my auctions. Then we'll know how it really works.

Once again, if Ebay allowed everyone to do like you are doing and starting auctions higher than a BIN price (pretend auction), then every listing on Ebay would be nothing but auctions that go unsold.

While I concentrate on trading cards my store is very similar to yours in that almost everything I list falls under collectibles, mostly slow moving stuff and I ride the very limit of my total of 11,000 free listings every month.
I have found the relatively tiny amount of free auction listings to not even be worth messing with. Another 250 is only a drop in the bucket compared to the other 11,000 listings.
