I had an amazing experience selling a US Navy Pea Coat over the holidays. I'll try to make this as concise as I can.
The daughter contacted me via message with questions about the condition of the coat (which was excellent BTW). She said she wanted to give it to her 92 year old dad for Christmas. He had served in the Navy as a pilot during the Korean War and had always wanted a pea coat like this.
The daughter and I had several exchanges of messages and she shared a bit of his story and a blog site that she created for him called "Aviator Dave."
I read some of the cool stories, but the story about how Dave and his wife met and ultimately married is one I will not forget. It's touching and funny at the same time.
The daughter and I continued to stay in touch as the pea coat was delivered and she was thrilled with its condition.
The day after Christmas I got a message from her that her dad LOVED the coat. He was very touched that his daughter had tracked it down and gifted her something so meaningful to him. She also mentioned that her Mom told her that Dad said this was the best gift he's ever received.
I thanked the daughter for letting me be a small part of this wonderful story and let her know that I loved that she shared it with me.
This is one of the biggest reasons I love selling on eBay. As resellers, we are so lucky to give people happiness and help them reunite with some precious memories!

Love your story! I have had a few sales like this too. This is the best part of selling used/vintage items!
I once sold an autographed program with a photo of an opera singer, someone obscure and not famous. I sold it. The man who bought it said that this was his wife's grandfather and she had heard from family members that he had once performed, but there was no record of it. He gave it to her for her birthday and she was so happy!
I once sold a boxing magazine and the man that bought it was the nephew of the boxer on the cover. Turns out it was his only cover because he had a glass jaw that ended his boxing career right after it began. He was collecting the limited items for the family.
There are more and they just warm my heart.

Sweet story and it looks like a great coat. I have had dozens of families write to me over the years to thank me for listing restaurant matchbooks and covers from their parents' or grandparents' restaurants from long ago. It is fun when the last name on the address matches the matchbook.

I sold pea coats, both new and used, in my former stores for nearly 40 years. They never once went out of fashion.
