Much of the Search Issue

With search pulling much of it's results from Item Specifics and Compatibilities.
And search widely perceived to not function as they should (debatable).
eBay item number 386681992996 is a good example of a whole lot of the search issue problem.

If you don't think you are being seen in search results where you should be seen?
Don't blame that seller.
eBay created this mess with Item Specifics and Compatibilities and Search pulling results from there.

@redlinear

I have seen others Key Word Spamming the item specifics, but I typically don't search for items of this genre.  This one "wins the prize" I guess, with wrong categories as well.  Maybe when eBay is done with their new "feedback experience enhancement" they can address this sort of thing.

Can you provide a bit more detail and specificity as to why the following is a good example of the search issue problem?

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=386681992996

When I run the following search I get a total of 3 items including the one you referenced.

...not to mention that a lapel pin has no real vehicle application to be specified in the first place.

(As an aside: That is one of the worst attempts at copying the Ford script logo that I have ever seen.)

And you should see that given your search.
The issue is, you just might see that seller's "lapel pins" when searching for darn near any model or part.
I found those searching for "97 Escort Wiper Motor".
If you open up the listing and look at the Item Specifics, there are hundreds of car parts listed under Part Number categories.
And under Compatibilities (which is basically interchange of car parts), he has those pins fitting Thousands of different vehicles.
GENIUS!

I bet AI isn't smart enough to catch it though.
This seller has just taken a page from all the cheap overseas stuff.   Things that are sort of universal like toggle switches or fuzzy dice.   Those millions of listings are spammed the same way.
WHY?  All due to Items Specifics and Compatibilities, and search pulling results from there.

There's also another seller bonus.  Compatibility settings is responsible for Guaranteed Fit.
If the item is guaranteed to fit and buyer claims the part does not fit?  The return shipping is on eBay, not the seller.

Creativity. I won't argue that the search function is less than optimal and the search results will vary widely from user to user depending on the parameters you use. As an example I  ran a search on 97 Escort Wiper Motor and did not see the lapel pins in any of the 87 results that I got back. It's like shooting craps. 🙂

(this is generally how I search when researching prices when listing my items. I feel this is how most of customers search).    With the exception of that last thing "see more results".  I don't think most eBay shoppers ever see that.

Generally the way I search also other than I use exact words any order to filter out a lot of the junk. This is the search I used to get the 87 results/hits. Without the exact words any order parameter I get 130 hits including the lapel pins.
