I have a new store subscription up and running and a few more questions arose:
1. On the Store Management Page (upper right) is a choice to Revert to my old Store ... have NOT clicked that, what does it do?
2. Cannot find where to set up Categories ... in the lower left of this screen shot is the word Categories and a clickable link BUT when I click the link nothing happens.
3. Promoted Listings: I read several sections of the Promoted Listings offer by eBay (NOT part of the screen shot below) whereby you can Pay up to 20% to apparently increase visibility of your listings AND the Fee will ONLY be assessed if the item sells. I will not be doing that at present but looking at all the fee examples, etc. this seems to be equivilent to offering the Promotional fee as a discount off the sale price (I assume JUST the item and NOT shipping, but that does not seem to be explained). So in my mind, to offset the use of the promotion and still get the price you want for your item you need to add the promotion percentage on to the price ... while they mention this my be beneficial for categories with huge numbers of listings (like Women's Clothing) it probably is true for many categories ...

Also when you opened your store & did not have categories all your items went into other.
I am putting up a screen shot to show where on the listing form you need to add your store category so after you have them set up you will put this in the listing form & your items will fall into the correct category in your store for you. You can put them in 2 categories if you would like
The ones now don't have a category so you are going to need to revise them & add your store categories to them. Otherwise they will sit in other.

Your ebay categories have nothing to do with your store categories.
Say you make a category for Pottery & glass, you now list a piece of fiesta using ebays pottery & glass category , You still need to select what category it is going into in your store
So if you set up a pottery & glass category for your store you need to put it there like my above screen shot.
If you do not select a store catergory in the ebay lisitng it will all dump into other
You will want maybe a category for your Model & Kits or something like that , Pottery and Glass,Etc
They will fall in to the category as long as you have a category set up in your store and enter that store category on your ebay lisitng as I showed above.
Make sense?

There are eBay categories and Store categories - completely different.
If you click on my ID and then choose View Seller's Items, you will see the Ebay Listing Categories on the left. If you go through the store "door," you'll see my created categories. If you click on China For Your Table - you will see all of my sub-cats
Might I add that you not only create your main store cats but create those sub cats right away too if you're going to use them. They are handy for some breakdown. Otherwise you'll be pulling your hair out. You'll have to edit the listing and remove it from the main category back to other and then create the sub and then re-edit the item again to add it to the new sub-cat.

Thank you Suzanne ... very nice store btw ... love the silverplate listings ... I should probably be asking you for pattern i.d., that's my biggest challenge with the flatware I get ... if you know of any sources for that and can share them I would appreciate it. Nice organization too ... I get it now and appreciate the feedback ... will keep working on the store. My thrust, because I travel with my job at times AND have had more success with Auction listings is toe do 5, 7 & 10 days opposed to 30 day FP ... it limits the total number of things I sell but if the average sale price is decent then quanity is less of an issue.

Within recent years ebay changed the style of the store so revert changes you bac kto the original store style
To add categories you need to go to manage my store and there will be a link from there
As for the promoted listings someone else might can help more I don't use that feature

@newcoloringbooks ... Thanks for the quick reply ... is there a chance you can share a screen pic of exactly where the "link" is for setting up categories? I have searched around quite a bit without finding it ... hopefully it's not one of those "hover the curser over a certain" word and the link magically appears ... anyway, any additional help you can give would be greatly apprecaited.
As for the Promoted Listings, I fully understand what it is ... it is a new Fee eBay will charge if you use that feature to try and move your items up a search list. But to use it and NOT lose money Sellers will have to add $$ to their sale price to offset the potential fee ...

@labs118 ... Yes, I see that and thank you for the help ... and yes, they are all just sitting in the "Other" category ... I sort of thought that they were all in the Other category but did not know how select from the 300 categories ebay mentioned. Again, my sincere thanks!

Perfect, that even shows how to get there ... odd mine did not jump over to that section ... anyway, I sincerely appreciate the help!

Thanks for the "congrats" labs! I'll see how it goes ... see if my "method to the madness" works. I am only going month by month to start with, did NOT commit to a full year.

I have the old store layout if you want to see the difference. I had to switch to it when there was a problem with something not working right that was linked with the new store. It was a pretty widespread issue, so that was the fix. I just never went back because I like the listing layout color choices better. There are less bells and whistles.
From the basic MyEbay page - I use the Manage My Store Link on the left - it then takes me to this:
If I click on the Manage My Store from the SM (Selling Manager ) page, it takes me an additional step to get there

Okay - found the reason I changed.
Late last May/or very early June 2015, cutom Store Categories completely disappeared for lots of people with the new store format. If you changed to the old format, the category menu showed again and your items were in the right place.
I just never changed back.

@scga912 Okay, so correct me if I am wrong ... the Store Catagories are different from the Listing Categories correct? In other words, a Buyer visits a Store and looks to see what Categories are in THAT store, then chooses. OR, is there a pull down list of the 300 Categories ebay mentioend and then just click one into the Category box? I think @labs118 mentioned something about once the cats are set up item would go into them, I assume I have to move them in to categories and they will not automatically fall into one when I add and item to the store?
I am just trying to get a feel for the data flow and maintance requirements for operating this the way I want to. I am NOT focusing on quantity but rather vintage and niche and unique quality.
