Good Morning Ebay,
As horrible of a time this is for the world right now, being stuck at home has done 2 things... we are shopping like heck on the Internet (mostly on Ebay of course!) AND in my house, we are taking the opportunity to do some Spring Cleaning! Going through packed closets full of things we don't need anymore... because what else are you going to do while you are stuck at home? Reruns get old, gaming gets old... why not do something productive, cleanout your house and list on Ebay while we are stuck at home?
The only thing is that I ran out of free listings... You had offered a promotion a couple weeks ago, while we were still working and we had no time to list because we were rushing to the grocery stores trying to find toilet paper and Hand Sanitizer, but now the country is pretty much stuck at home doing... nothing...
Please help us bored, locked down people who but want to be productive, but are stuck at home cleaning out closets and rooms full of things we don't need.
Please Consider providing some additional Free Listings to the Community...
Sincerely, one of your long time members.

I would assume that most of us are trying to make a reasonable profit and have looked at the options. Ebay makes the most revenue from sales. Most of us are experiencing very slow sales. So exactly why is eBay having the lowest month for free listings that I can remember for years? Their costs have not change because of the pandemic. More items for us to list means more revenue for eBay. Not understanding why they have changed their model this month.

I could not imagine NOT having a store. The stuff I sell is very long tail and worth only what one person is willing to pay at any given moment in time. These things have to be listed in order to sell. It can take months for an item to sell. I find the $22/mo cost a very cheap investment. If I sat around working only with 50 listings and waiting for free promos all the time I would sell very little if anything.
Yes, I sell what a lot of people throw away - old booklets and other paper ephemera. I sell what many consider junk. But hey, it's cool stuff and there are people out there who are willing to pay for it. I am more than willing to pay for a store so I can sell this really cool junk to them. 🙂

You sell really neat stuff!!!! Some of the posters thinking they need free listings are saying it is because sales are slow and it doesn't make sense at all to me. Even if I were to go a few months with zero sales, I would keep my store for when sales rebound and to give me the chance to list as I please and as much as I please in the meantime. There is absolutely zero chance of selling an item that is waiting on a freebie listing.

"and it doesn't make sense at all to me" then it is useless to continue to explain how the extra listing fees drain on many sellers profit margins.

What you can do till they get around to passing out the free listings (and eBay will the amount is up for debate but they do them dang near monthly) is get the items preped
1) wash em, dust em or w/e (said you found them in closets)
2) take the pics and have em stored on your comp
3) write up the descriptions in notepad (word and the others tend to have html in them if you copy and paste and eBay gets cranky about it)
4) have the price you want for the item figured out
5) get the packing figured out (what to ship in, who to ship it with, and or even prepack it if you have the space)
Then if nothing else you have it ready for when the free listings pop up whether they show up tomorrow or some time in April.

What will and will not sell on eBay never ever ceases to amaze me not since I started selling off my mom's estate items...
When her Angel figurines from her china cabinet that were beautiful sat for months even years, and a half open box of some grease trap bags sold within 24 hours I stopped trying to figure out what WILL sell and just list everything I laid hands on and as long as I had either the spots left in my store subscription or the free listings to do so. Clothing was a pain... but that's more cause she bought Wal-mart stuff and cut the tags out the min she got em home so not a big market for those type things but hey the local flea market loved em 😉

For the past several months eBay has sent me FREE 200 listings, and if not 50 FREE a month. Usually, about when my listing are due to turn over eBay has sent me another 200..so happy with that!
YOU are not receiving these been going on since Christmas??

Prior to last month eBay was giving the extra listings to almost everyone. Since then they are giving them selectively. Not sure the criteria because when you call, they lie about it.

You do have really cool stuff.
There is a market for unusual inexpensive items.
People always want something new(to them) something different.
Buyers just love cheap things.
Its barely worth it to try, but, seems that small things, jewelry, collectibles, small things of all kinds move.
We have nevered moved enough to make a store worth it.
It's usually slow & steady, sometimes it takes awhile for something to sell.
The profit is slim, but..

Totally not true. I have seen numerous posts from sellers who haven't had a promotion for free listings in years.

I think eBay would be more willing to give out free listings if they had some chance of generating some revenue from it. It could also be the exact opposite of that and they are trying to simply get big numbers on a listing count without regard to actual revenue and entice advertisers. Some users complaining about not getting promos lately have stated that they didn't fully use the last ones they got and maybe that has something to do with it. Listing for the sake of listing doesn't seem like a great business plan, but that's simply my opinion. I wish you well and hope you prosper.
