Method to Automatically Switch Back To Classic eBay Label FLow

They !^%##$ switched me into the new eBay label flow. It sucks, as others have indicated.

My main gripe so far is that the page isn't printable which is a must for me - it is part of my order processing flow to have an archival PDF copy of the ready to purchase label with all the details visible. Also, the new label flow does not work at all in FF3.6.24 (blank page) and results in a "something went wrong" error in FF31, which forces me to use FF52 which I do not want to do.

(What little of it that will print is 2 pages of emptiness, and it looks like it will be 4 pages when I can get it all to print via Stylish CSS rules. Then another few hours to get that to fit on maybe 2 pages.)

So, I fired up HTTPFox, captured the load sequence, and whipped up a simple Redirector rule to automatically switch me back to the classic label page (it is probably the easiest Redirector rule I've created to date).

The Classic eBay label flow Redirector rule:

Example URL: https://gslblui.ebay.com/gslblui/new_label?transId=987654321&itemId=123456789012
Include Pattern: https://gslblui.ebay.com/gslblui/new_label?*
Exclude Pattern: https://gslblui.ebay.com/gslblui/back_to_classic*
Redirect To: https://gslblui.ebay.com/gslblui/back_to_classic?$1
Pattern Type: Wildcard
Unescape Matches: No

Install Redirector, enter that rule, and forget about the new label flow until the day eBay changes things or finally takes the classic label flow away.

Some threads/posts about the Redirector addon, which, it appears, can be used in Firefox, Chrome, Vivaldi, and Opera. Edge, Safari, and IE out of luck.

There is an alternative Redirector rule that could be used that shortcuts the path I chose. The rule above essentially mimics clicking the "Go back to classic label printing" link on the new label page, which results in an eBay internal redirect, finally arriving at the classic label page. The alternative method would dissect the URL from the "Print label" option found on My eBay Sold item page for an item, and re-construct a new URL directly to the classic label flow. Problem with that approach is that there can be numerous different paths/initial URLs to the new label flow (seller hub orders page, emails, etc), and that second approach would probably fail for many of them.

I just go to the url and remove "new_label"

I then type in "back_to_classic"

If I have more labels to do I copy  the   .....    back_to_classic    .... so that I can use it with the next one.

I hated the new one as much as you do. Use the new one for a week or two. I guarantee you will get used to it.

Ive used it for months. Sucks just as much now. Despise having to hit extra links to check regional prices and then going back and having to start over. Atrocity of an update when classic worked great.

I'm so annoyed... I called customer service.  It seems to be gone forever now and changing the URL ("back_to_classic") will not help anymore!!!  It seems with the classic the label would be available to print in 1 click and now it has to be downloaded in order to print... is anyone else having this issue?  So many more steps and way more time consuming!

Seems to be gone now yes and the biggest issue for me is that you have to pay up front for usps services.  Used to be you could click pay later and they would charge you when the package was recieved.  Money is tight here and that was a big help especially as a new seller where I had to wait till delivery to be paid!  Anyone got any ideas about how to finance shipping or a new work around for this issue?

Looks like classic is gone now. Great let me try using the new **bleep** service:

Error creating label: Label could not be generated. Internal error.

Thanks for everything eBay. How the hell do I ship these five packages now?

Yeah it looks like we're now stuck with it. With having to dl to a pdf before you can send it to the printer and 4 clicks to get back to where you were.

AND the labels print smaller as well.

@outworldsystems   Open a free account at PirateShip.com and connect it to your eBay account.  Use it to purchase labels when eBay's label system fails.

I downloaded an extension for firefox called "redirector" but you can't simply "add a rule".

It says:

Description:

Example URL:

Include pattern:

Redirect to:

Pattern type:
Wildcard Regular Expression
Pattern Description:

Example result:

Show advanced options...

So, I really don't know how to enter the information you suggested in the correct fields. Is it a "wild card" or a "regular expression"? What do I put under "include pattern"? You leave so much information out in your initial post that I'm skeptical of this. How would these people complimenting you on your help have been able to repeat what you were doing without those instructions?

@lagarto_electronico

The post you are responding to is a year old, and unfortunately eBay has apparently changed things since then so that the back_to_classic technique no longer works as it once did.

It was working for me 2 days ago. Ive been using it for months. I just dragged the redirector to my bookmarks. Every time I click" print shipping label " on ebay, the new page comes up so then I just "click" the redirector on my bookmarks and "poof" it changes into the old shipping label page. Its awesome. Thank you so much for doing this.

It hasnt been working the last 2 days so maybe something changed at ebay internally, but ill keep trying.
