Hello,
I use a third party insurance company for my packages that need insurance. The insurance company likes it when I can send a digital affidavit to the buyer to sign when they claim a package is damaged or lost. eBay no longer provides an e-mail address for the buyer (at least that I'm aware of) and their member to member contact policy warns against asking for this type of information.
While I know eBay is trying to prevent off eBay sales, I could see the inability of their agents or algorithims to be able to differentiate between a seller abusing eBay by trying to do off site sales and a seller like myself who is just trying to close an insurance case.
So my question is how do I go about getting a buyer's e-mail without risking getting a bogus policy warning or seller restriction down the road because eBay has a history of incorrectly enforcing their policies, often to the sellers detriment.
Thanks for the help

I presume you mean the buyer's email?
If you have a current ongoing transaction there should be no issue asking for their email address.
Also, the anonymized email address eBay does provide is supposedly functional for one year so anyone using it within that timeframe will get through.

I most definitely meant "Buyer" my apologies. I am the seller in this instance.
I checked my order details for this transaction and it stated that the e-mail they (eBay) provides (The jumbled one) is only good 14 days from the transaction.
"e-mail addresses are displayed for 14 days after date sold".
Regardless I don't want to send an official affidavit through a disguised e-mail link that eBay provides. I'd like the actual e-mail address
And I'm sure it's fine to ask through eBay messaging... Until eBay goes on a rampage against off eBay sales and issues violations to sellers based on the word "e-mail" showing up in member to member communication.

Here is a workaround for the scrambled buyer email address issue.
Go to your Manage All Orders screen
Find your sale
Use the arrow dropdown menu on the left side
Select print shipping labels or invoices
Select print invoice for your own records
The buyer email address and phone number will be displayed.

Have you tried this function lately? Does it still work for you?
On Tuesday that function was done away with for some people.
It was replaced with this and there is no longer the eMail or Phone Number.

I think the 14 day thing only refers to the display period, I have used those addresses to send messages long after 14 days and they are still received.
On the other hand I agree, the actual address would be best for your purpose.

I think the eBay policy of not sharing of email addresses is ridiculous. I have a large $ sale that the buyer cannot pay for because of a PayPal issue. Since he cannot use that, I could go for payment with an e-transfer. This would settle the transaction. eBay should be in favor of that so they get their cut, too! Only way to get an e-transfer is to provide my email; which eBay (in their holy wisdom) would block. I want payment!!! Stay safe all. 🙂

Tell your buyer to fix their paypal issue and you should have no problem.
