Someone sent me a message asking me if I would accept another price other than my BIN price. (I felt it was a fair ask so I agreed to do it).
However, what Idid is go into the listing and change the price.
The email actually was set up for me to respond to her offer and accept or decline, etc.
My question is, if I did not change the live listing would the price automatically be adjusted? (I ask because, this was not a BO listing)

Hi currencyoftimeime & welcome back to selling
In the future you can just respond to the message with an offer , no need to change the fixed price to Buy it now.
When they send you the message click the link to reply with offer, accept what they offer or click to reply with offer you would be willing to take.
They can then accept , decline or ignore
By changing the price it doesn't guarantee someone else won't come along & buy it if your asker isn't online at the time you receive the ebay message & change it.

I don't understand how it could have been set up in the message the same as if a BO was on the listing.
If it was just a message, how would eBay know it was an offer.
Color me confused.

I don't use best offer, and rarely respond to unsolicited offers. However, on the rare occasion that I do - I do what you did - change the price in the listing and notify the person that made the offer that I was doing so, but couldn't guarantee that someone else wouldn't buy it first. If the listing only has a few days to run, I may wait until it expires and then relist at the offered price and notify the potential buyer.
I would not accept an offer via email so I can't answer your question.

The only other caveat is that I see, the “require immediate payment” with BIN was removed when I accepted the offer and changed the price. They “bought it” so it;s no longer live, but they haven’t yet paid. So, I will just keep an eye out and proceed based upon if they pay or the do not, within the allotted time. I find it odd that someone would ask for a price, I change it, then they don’t pay right away but “buy” it.

If you have BO on your listing and a buyer uses it, then the Immediate Payment Required is no longer in effect, so essentially that is the same for what you did.
