Listed item too low and it sold

Item just sold in my store. I opened to see and realized I listed for the wrong price- would it be a bad idea to cancel from the buyer?

It's best to ship and treat it as a learning experience.   I recommend going one extra step in the listing process and that is to view the listing and inspect for errors.

@dard93

Unfortunately you will have to ship and NOT cancel and then learn from your mistake.  Double check things in the future.

Yes.  Next time just use a buy it now listing format to get the price you want.  If you cancel you can get a defect on your account.  Too many cancellations can jeopardize your account.

Happy Selling.

It seems all your replies are incorrect,  just hd the same happened to me and seller cancled the oreder, reason buyer requested to cancel.

That definitely happens but that is not the correct way to handle it.  If you want, you can report your seller for using the wrong reason for cancelling the sale. They should have used out of stock/damaged as a reason since that is the only reason that determines it is a seller initiated cancellation. Your seller choose a reason that would not give them a defect but cancelling because they didn't get the price they wanted does upset buyers and isn't fair to them.

For ME, it would be "it depends".

Did the item sell for $1.25 and it's worth $1250.   Hell YES I'd cancel it and take the ding.

Did the item sell for $12.50 and it's worth $22.50?   No, not worth it.

IF it's worth the potential downside - do it.

If it's not - don't.

That applies to a LOT of things ... life in general.

In general it is NOT a good idea, you should complete the sale & chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Also, the suggestion by @ndeo8937  is incorrect & against the rules.  You can be sanctioned if eBay finds out or the buyer complains.

All that said, how much money are we talking about?  A $10 mistake, no biggie, eat it.  A $100 mistake, I'd have to think twice about it.

Since no one else has mentioned it, the reason it's generally a bad idea to cancel is that eBay takes cancellations very seriously and will suspend your account for too many, especially if you're new. It doesn't take many when you only have a few sales to get suspended, where bigger sellers have more leeway, so when you're starting out it's best to take the hit and learn from it.

Of course, as noted, if it's a huge difference, it might be worth it, but make sure you avoid more than 1-2 cancellations for Out Of Stock within your early sales (I would even say that many in 100 sales is more than I'd be comfortable with, but I don't know the exact numbers that matter to eBay).

Just so you are aware, you replied to a post from nearly a year ago.  And of course so did everyone else.

Not saying the replies themselves may be incorrect, but please make sure you don't resurrect old threads!  They can have incorrect information or outdated information, or posts from people that no longer post.  😄

The original message here is from 04/16/23.

And the OP is apparently still selling here.

As I understand it,  however, the OP/seller's issue is that he priced his item too low and wanted to cancel.

That's not exactly the same as OOS as a reason, is it? However, both are frowned on by eBay, so it probably does not matter.
