Keep Your Ads Competitive???

I opened my seller hub this morning and the place right smack in the middle, used to host useful information. That has been replaced with a big banner with Bold Letters advising me to Keep my ads competitive by joining the pay to play game.  This is a big piece of real estate  to post this act of desperation message.  I guess sellers are not buying into it.

Yep.  The extortion tacket is losing steam,  BIG TIME.

Ebay may hate it, but they may soon be forced to go back to being an egalitarian platform, after all.

OMG.

Annoying ads cluttering up a website!

That is so unusual.

In Q1 eBay's revenue from promoted listings in Q1 raised a quarter of a billion dollars and was up 27% over the previous year.

I wish my sales were "losing steam' like that 🤣

Desperate people do desparate things.  That doesn't mean it is sustainable, or that the extorted like being extorted.

I used PLS once (when I had a credit to use them). The results were abysmal. Never bothered since.

If you hated doing it, then why did you do it? I have never promoted a listing.

IMHO advertising a service that made eBay a quarter of a billion dollars last quarter is closer to "going with what works" rather than "doing a desperate thing".

or that the extorted like being extorted.

Unless sellers vote with their feet and leave, what they "like" will not really matter to eBay. And last time I checked there were still 1.5 billion listings here.

So eBay reaped an additional $250 million in profits between buyers and sellers with their PL policy? You best keep that under your hat before more buyers realize they are paying more as a result of this policy.

$285 million, actually.

You best keep that under your hat

It is printed right in eBay's press release for Q1 2023.

https://investors.ebayinc.com/investor-news/press-release-details/2023/eBay-Inc.-Reports-Better-Than...

before more buyers realize they are paying more as a result of this policy.
Promoted listings is a voluntary program, not a policy.
