Hello,
I'm new to Ebay selling and I'm looking for some clarifications here and see if it's against Ebay rules:
I had a buyer reached out to me regarding a jacket and he asked to meet locally to try it on first before making the purchase on Ebay. I tried to explain to him that he needed to make the purchase first through Ebay and if it doesn't fit, I'd refund him on my end. He was not happy about that. While we were messaging on Ebay back and forth - I sort of received a warning message from Ebay I think.
Is it against Ebay's rule if we met a buyer locally without them making the purchase first and then they make the purchase later on via Ebay after examining the item?
Thank you for all your help!

Yes, if they see you give contact info you will get a strike. Not only that Ebay will charge you for a sale even if it does not happen.

As long as you don't have IPR on your listing, there's no reason the buyer can't BUY the jacket on ebay then pay cash at pickup if it's suitable for him.

That's what I thought! Thanks for responding. Glad I didn't meet him. That's a relief!

I am rather surprised how quick eBay picked up on the selling of the jacket. Must have been a lot of emails back and forth. I am assuming you took out "local pickup" after this situation. I have to admit it is a great jacket by the way. I would be very careful now on your sales since this incident. And I would block this buyer ASAP.

Thanks!! Yeah, I had the local pickup turned off last night due to the situation. I figured I'd just do the shipping to avoid further incidents just in case.

My first thought upon reading that he wanted to meet you before the sale to try it on was, "I hope he can't run faster than you." 😁
