Item specifics question

I am adding photos and postcards to my product line and have a (possibly stupid) question. When I fill out the item specific form do i still need to add it to the description line?

For example on postcards of in the item specific O have RPPC and postcard do U need that in the description line also to be found? Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I nearly only sell slides.

I believe you do. I do anyway just to make sure. Describe twice, sell once.

That is currently what I am doing but would love to free up the characters

I think you could leave out "photo" in the description.  Some people, especially younger ones have no idea what a slide is, photo will confuse them and is a possible snad waiting to happen.

Hi, yes, include all pertinent info in the description as well as the Item Specifics.

From the eBay Help Pages under Tips for writing Descriptions:

”Describe your item as completely and accurately as possible in the body of your listing, and make sure the description is consistent with the item specifics you choose.”

He mentioned freeing up characters, so I actually think he's talking about the Title, and not the Description.

Anyhow, the short answer is eBay won't tell anyone exactly how Search works, and they'll change it all tomorrow anyhow, so it's best to get every possible keyword in the Title, and in the Item Specifics, and to describe the item completely in the Description.

There should be an "automatic search expansion" to include "photo" as a keyword for any item listed in a photo category, so you could in theory leave it out.  But I wouldn't, for the same reason I still end up putting "coin" in my coin listing titles... you just never know how (if) search is going to work right.   You could always try writing a listing with out the word(s), and then do test searches (not logged in) to see if it's still returning properly... I'm still not clear when (and if) Item Specifics are "searchable", beyond knowing the answer is not "always" or "never"...

Thanks,
You are correct, I meant title line. I am going to make a listing to test it this weekend. Thank you for your insight.

Item specifics question

I would add the RPPC as the first thing in the title - really because there are two (or more) categories that they could be listed under - yes, there is a specific RPPC category, but they are often listed under "Collectibles, Photographic Images, Vintage & Antique Photos, Other Collectible Antique Photos Pre-1940" - leading some collectors to do a general non-category search to find what they are looking for. You may want to do a comparison and search the "sold" prices in each category for RPPC to see which would be better to list in. It may depend on the image - for example, portrait/fashion images or those with dolls/toys may sell higher in the Collectible Photo category while landscapes and town images may do better under RPPC (just a guess, needs research).

A while back a blue said something about ebay IS being included in Cantseeme, but a user entered IS won't be.

How ebay is that?

Item specifics question

HI, D-K. I, too, was told years ago (about 7 years) that if you put in your own specifics to spruce up what ebay provides, which ain't much, your personal specifics don't count. I use 3rd Party AW2000 to list and with all of my "added" specifics, I can't really tell now what belongs to ebay and what were mine I have been adding my own for years. And it is a lot of work on my part to "refine" what ebay considers specifics which are usually not applicable or just plain dumb. How does one find out if NoSeeMe sees mine? Thanks for anyones help. If no one sees My refinements, then I can just stop doing it as it does take a lot of thought and time.

Hi, again, D-K. Can you forward to me where a Blue mentioned that adding your own item specifics over and above the eBay default Specs are not seen or searchable? Appreciate your time and Thanks.
