I sold a $200 item and the buyer claimed it wasn't as described, opened a case and return label generated from ebay was provided to them. It went out for delivery back to me but was never delivered. The post office doesn't know where it is.
Am I out the money and item or will ebay give us a courtesy refund because their labels don't include an option to add insurance?
Return labels can have insurance, but you have to step in here.
Whenever an item goes out for delivery, then exactly 18 hours later says Awaiting delivery scan, the recipient, usually the buyer but now you as the seller, probably got it, see here. But if you still don't get it, eBay says:
When a buyer returns an item and it doesn't show delivered within the specified timeframe then we will look at three possible situations to determine the outcome.
1. If the buyer used an eBay return label then we will close the case in the buyers favor, regardless of who paid for the return label.
2. If the buyer used their own label and they paid for it themselves, we will close the case in the sellers favor.
3. If the seller sent the buyer a label and the seller paid for it, we will close the case in the buyers favor.
