Is there an ironclad way to sell a high value, 20K+ item without getting scammed?

While some transactions worked out alright, I have now listed a 20K+ watch three times and each time it was 'bought' by a scammer. Twice the purchase was made through an 'unauthorized use' of an account (I have evidence these were highjacked), once it was made by an unregistered buyer. To make things worse, ebay released my contact information to them, so I now have to fear for my safety. They obviously did not pay, nor did I ship. Ebay suggests to list with 'buy it now' and request immediate payment, but I don't think I can take a chance to ship to someone who may claim the item is not as described and then sends back the item damaged or changed, or even sends back an empty package. Seller protection is pretty much useless, especially if the buyer does a credit card charge back. Since there appears to be no way to have a payment irreversibly in my account, I am about to give up on ebay. Am I missing something?

Not here there isn't. There have been numerous posts about high value watch scams. The fact that you've already have several scams attempted here in relation to the listing, should have giant bright red flags waving in your face!

Use a reputable high end auction house.

You can list it for local pickup and ask the buyer to pay with cash.

orher than collecting cash, there is no 100% safe way to sell that watch. If you take PayPal, the buyer has 180 days to scam you.

You are not missing a thing.

Thee is absolutely no way to 100% yourself from a scammer unless you do

Local pickup, cash only, no paypal.

They come, they see, they pay cash only, they leave.

Done!

And do all this inside a Police Station.

I'd be just as worried about the $30,000 painting. Especially since it's being shipped by UPS.

None of that makes it 'iron clad'.  They could still swap it out with another and claim it isn't genuine.

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

Sell it personally and collect cash or sell to a shop. Otherwise you may get scammed here i have seen videos on youtube sellers get scammed as much as 10k or more on Ebay. Too high risk as a seller you may end up paying someone to take it from you.

I believe if they buy it local pick up and cash, do they still have the MBG from Ebay? Say they come back here and claim NAD after they have looked at it an picked it up. They can say they got it checked out and it is fake. Is that correct? So the seller still will be at risk selling it here. It is not a wise thing to do with one transaction, from one buyer for that amount of money.

Even if he sells it locally to someone I would absolutely do it in a police station. Heck, I would hire an armed guard for that much cash. WOOO, risky ALL THE WAY.

Absolutely NOT! There is NO buyer protection when the buyer pays in CASH. The MBG doesn't cover it and CAN'T cover it. Only electronic payments made through ebay checkout are eligible for buyer protection so it is safe to take cash when selling here.

If the buyer pays with cash he does not have any buyer protection.

He does with paypal.  And as another poster pointed out he can turn around and claim he never received it.

That is why a smart buyer would meet the seller at an appraiser and based on that appraisal either buy it or walk away.
