iPhones that are compatible with Verizon's 3G network can no longer be activated since Verizon is retiring the 3G network. That makes older model iPhones useless as phones.
Is it worth selling them for parts in the US? Are these phones usable internationally where they might be on older network systems?
Before I bring old phones to an electronics recycling center I want to make sure. I did research the subject but came up with some conflicting information. I thought the computer and phone sellers here might know.

Some people buy older phones to recover the gold in them, but don't know any more then that.

Between my partner and I we have a few, so maybe it's worth lotting them together and selling for parts. The model is still actively selling on eBay but only getting about $12-15 per phone.

For obvious reasons ( greed) US network providers make an effort to not make new systems backward compatible forcing upgrades. My old iPhone 4 became unusable here in the US but still works fine in Southeast Asia. They don't sell for too much as new phones cost less than $100. But yes, in many countries they are still viable technology.

You asked if they are worth selling then you wrote you and your partner already checked and they sell for $12-15. With that said only you can decide if they are worth listing.
