Hi, guys,
I recently got some new and better quality images for my existing listings, I thought if I change my listings with the new images and descriptions may good for customers' browsing experience. But some of my friends told me that if I do this, the eBay robot will think the products are changed, different from the previous ones, so finally, the ranking or whatsoever other negative effects will come to the listings. Is that true? How about your opinion from your own eBay selling experience? Thank you for your help
Jeff

Updating your listings is more likely to give them a boost in search results. It also decreases the likeliness that ebay will delete stagnant listings that have been up for sale for over a year. Often times I get a sale for a product within minutes or hours of updating them, ebay likes it.
Better quality images is a bonus as well. The more readable the image, the more likely Google will rank it higher in Google Shopping. ebay thinks not having a white background is bad, that's a myth too. Readability is what matters to Google. Practically none of my listings have a white background, almost every listing I have is in Google shopping right now.
Besides updating listings, you should consider sharing them on social media, especially twitter. It can give your listings a huge boost in Google shopping, and greatly increase the odds of getting your listings put directly in Google's organic search results as well.

I would assume some kind of "reboot" with search engine placement if you change images and/or description.
However, I change my description sometimes and it doesn't seem to throw a wrench in sales. There may be a small temporary change, but my sense is that things come back to normal pretty quickly, and if the description is better (or your photos are better), search results may be better in the long run.
My sense is based on my experience, and I think it's worth making changes if the changes improve the listing. My bottom line is that my changes typically do not destroy sales. Rather, they improve them, if after a few days or week.
YMMV.

Its actually very good to change photos, descriptions, and titles regularly, for reasons that others have already posted. Even just changing the order of photos or minor changes in title seems to result in better sales on a "stale" listing.
YMMV

It is always good to review your older listings to see if there are any improvements to be made such as better photos or a better title. Often I find outright errors that I made in such listings like accidentally having the wrong photo as the primary (1st) photo. Hard to sell something with a picture of the back of an item showing.
