Is There a Difference?

For the types of items you are selling, if you have the UPC entered, probably best if you leave blank.

For certain items, it makes sense to enter the MPN.

So to put it simple terms. Chevrolet would be the manufacturer name and Camaro would be the Model.

I think the MPN identifies a particular 'part #' like a SKU  - where as the model number actually identifies the model of the item (year, style etc).

The part number is for the 'Part'  not the whole item- The Model Number identifies the type of item it is.

Yes, there is a difference.

Looking at Buffalo storage drive for example. The model number is LS210d whereas the MPN would be LS210D0201 or LS210D0402 etc...

As explained on Google,

The difference between the two is that the model number is the general number for that specific product. The part number is the specific and unique number to the model

For many widgets they are one and the same.  A widget with many parts usually has just a model number.  But some manufacturers have, often, longer part number used for internal inventory control and shorter model numbers for consumer usage.   And some parts only have the MPN.  You usually have to look at the packaging closely to find both numbers (or even just one number) if there are two different numbers.
