Is The Community growing?

When I log on to The Community about mid-morning EST there are usually anywhere from about 2900 to 5500 members logged on.  This morning there were over 10,000.  So is The Community growing or are the extra people having more issues than normal or trying to learn more about all the changes eBay is making?

Not sure how to figure that out but that is a significant jump in The Community involvement.

how about us that never log off?  i have this linked open and never have to resign in again. are we counted as being online all the time or does it only counts from active people using it.?

i'm rarely here anymore but logged in all the time.

anyways add me to the list of people that didn't know about the online counters but i never use that front page either.

I’m always logged in too.
I think they just pull the number from a hat.

Everyone has options. Just be sure the best option is right for you.

@fuzzface50, @loveyourimagination49  Good points ... but regardless of how or why, more people are signed on or as other has suggested ... the counters are off.

There are a lot of new users here giving bad advice. That’s really all I see.

"but regardless of how or why, more people are signed on or as other has suggested ... the counters are off."

what i was trying to get at before was were they just counting people that were active like within an hour as online but changed it recently to whoever is logged in no matter if they are active or not now just to make it look like it is more action here?  that could explain a good portion of  the difference in people signed in lately.

that is why i am not here as often. it seemed to really slow down here  not long ago and it seemed to be the same threads with no more new posts except the usual complainers you can't help or disagree withanyways. i can see them reporting all logged in people now instead just to make it look better then the ghost town it is becoming.

@fuzzface50  I understand but something I've commented before on other threads is eBay publishes Selling ID registration in excess of 25 million and Buying IDs in excess of 160 million ... granted, a % of those members are international but I think most or a large % are here in the US ... so looking at the online involvement here on The Community the % of active members participating is a very, very small number.

So are all the members who do not come here figuring things out on their own?  Unaware of the help available here?  Seldom have issues that require support?  Simply grin and bare it when adversity arises?  Have fully functional tin foil hats?

At 5:00 EST this morning, there was about 6,000 logged on. This place was a graveyard. Once you log off eBay, that should sever your connection here, as it does for me. I have to log in to eBay once I reopen my browser again.

Yes, if you log off, you are off ebay and the boards.

Or if you shut the computer off.

I have seen a few times I logon and the boards want me to sign in.

I am not required to do anything, but click the lith button.

But that is rare, 99% of the time I logon and I am also logged on to the boards.

I think what we are seeing is Lithium counting all the ebay members, who are also boardies.

So I go on ebay.. Lith sees monkey is online, so they count me.

There is no way 10,000 people are using the boards at 3:00 AM.

Many come here and register and only ask one question, and never come back.

But I bet every time they are on ebay Lith is counting them.

The only way Lithium would know how many board users are online at one time,

is if you were required to logon to the boards each time you use it.

Like when I log onto eBay, and then visit the boards for while, and then bounce over to kurzweilai, and then over to youtube, an back over to here, etc.

Yes, that is what I mean,

I log into ebay, and I need a song for a post.

So I close this window, and go to google, and find a song, copy link.

close the window and hit chrome, click on ebay, and I am still logged in.

( now I know that I should just right click the chrome icon and open a new window, just can't remember to do that )

At the moment it shows 15,635. I am seeing more people talking about scammers etc.

Many new sellers that don't know how things work.

I have noticed, many helpful posters, aren't here as much or they completely left when the boards changed.

Now would probably be the time that there would be a lot of people. Everyone is home from work and has time to surf eBay and come hang out here.
