If I post an item to sell and it doesn't sell and I have to pay the invoice.and I take the item down after I pay the invoice do I have to continue paying invoices if I don't have anything listed.

If  you aren't incurring any costs, then no there should be nothing on your invoice if you have already paid any fees you owe.  But if you are going to sell here, it really is important that you understand the fee structure as well as the selling rules.
