Inventory

Usually I am going to garage sales etc. to find items to sell, but recently I found a source with new products, and quite a few available.

I've tried selling some of these and have sold a few, but I can see that for some of them I may have the inventory for awhile. There is no discount for buying in greater quantities.  My question: how long do you expect to hold on to inventory?  Should I buy a ton in order to have inventory on hand or should I just buy a limited number that I should be able to sell withint 3-6 months.

Any suggestions? Or practices you follow?

Inventory

You need to consider what your inventory IS.  There are questions that need to be answered.

***  Is this something than gets stale, has an expiration date, starts to look icky as it ages?

***  Is this something that will go out of style, sooner or later.  What if that happens "sooner" ?

***  Is this something that everyone is gung ho about presently, but that will become passé and of little   interest in a short while, leaving you holding the bag of inventory you can't dump?

***  Is this something that may shortly be far more available to other sellers by suppliers, and at a much lower cost than you paid for your inventory at this time, making it hard for you to compete price-wise?

***  Is this something that comes in today's popular color, which will be 'out' next year?

Deciding whether to stock up now to get better pricing on your order or buying fewer pieces at a bit higher cost has pros and cons, so make sure you understand them before making up your mind.  Make sure you have all the questions identified and then answered!
