International buyer - using forwarding service - fragile item UK

Hi,

I've sold an item specifically stating UK buyers only.

It has been purchased from someone in Japan and the address they have provided goes to a forwarding service in the UK.

The item contains includes glass elements and I'm a little concerned about potential damage.

Do I have any rights to cancel this order? Really not keen on taking on the risk of a damaged item arriving which is why I specified UK only.

Many thanks

What makes you think that going to a forwarder and then on to Japan is any more risky than shipping it to some far flung location in the UK?

One suggestion when shipping to a forwarder, include a packing list that has a clear description of the item and attach that packing list to the OUTSIDE of the box.

Generally speaking forwarders only open packages because they need to identify what is in the shipment, same goes for customs on the destination end.

Thanks for the advice regarding the packing list 👍

I agree there is still a risk with domestic items but as you say items being opened and closed for inspection adds to risk of damage, which I don't want to be responsible for. Maybe I should film myself packing the item to ensure there was no damage prior to shipping.

Curious how you know the item is going to Japan? Did you contact the freight forwarder to find out where they are forwarding it to or are you just going by the buyers registered address? You are in the U.K. so I am not sure if the same rules apply with regard to the buyer loosing their MBG coverage once the item is delivered to the freight forwarder.

Do not bother filming yourself packing the item. It won't mean anything if damage occurs, and a case is filed. Besides, who in reality will view the video? Many come here trying to reach customer service, which has been replaced by AI. Many sellers do this and is a complete waste of time. As a seller, your only protection ends once item is shipped to the address in question, and still, damage can occur on its way. Go with your gut.
