It depends on what you are selling.  If you are selling high priced electronics I would not offer them to the international market on eBay.

If you coordinate the shipping thru eBay's shipping there are some protections.  I have never had a issue with international sales and sometimes I use the eBay shipping and sometimes I use other shipping options.

There is a general thumbs up consensus for the new EiS. Most members posting here seem to like it.

They seem to like the returns aspect, and so far, ebay has been true to their word in most cases....

What @stephenmorgan said is pretty wise as far as what to sell.

I am assuming by "enable the international option" you mean before you are enrolled in the EIS program provided you and your items are eligible.

A lot of the pro's/con's depend on how you are shipping it, whether direct or through one of eBay's current international programs like the GSP or eBay International Standard Delivery which is different from EIS. If you are shipping directly to the buyer the pro's and con's are basically covered under the MBG and there is very little seller protection and you are responsible for the customs forms.

If you are using the GSP or EISD then there are some limited seller protections but the buyer bears the cost of two shipping legs and an extended delivery timeline. Basically the following provides details on the current eBay programs which will all eventually roll into EIS.

Well a not as described return would cost a lot in shipping.  Would be cheaper to let them keep it for free. And, they know that.  Small items present less risk.

High value items that are easy to flip for cash have the most risk.   Canada would be less of a risk than many over seas locations.

From the point of the Canadian buyer, the drawback with eIS compared to the older Global Shipping Program is that we will be paying import fees on delivery, rather than before shipment.

And our duty free allowance from the USA is $150 Cdn(~$120USD) with only $40 (~$32USD) tax free allowance.

So if I bought a $200 USD camera from you I would be paying duty on the $200 of $0.00 (cameras are duty free I just learned) and sales tax of $26USD(~$31.20Cdn) plus the Canada Post service fee of $10. If this is unexpected, I might be angry.

If you are going to remain in the eIS program, you might want to add a note for international buyers like the one I have on all my listings.

"Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding"

As a seller I have been shipping internationally since 1998, with very few problems and most of those both as a percentage and in numbers were with US buyers.

I found years ago, Canada has a ton of scammers and thieves. I am not going to speculate, but that is just from years of selling to Canadian buyers. I stopped selling to Canada about 5 years ago and never missed them. I would highly advise not to sell internationally, period.

Looks like there will only be one eBay international shipping option soon.

https://www.ebay.com/sellercenter/shipping/ebay-international-shipping/faqs

eBay International Shipping has replaced eBay Global Shipping Program and will replace eBay international standard delivery by September 1, 2023.

  • You’ll get all your favorite benefits - plus even more seller protections and reduced seller fees in one, easy-to-use program
  • If you are using the Global Shipping Program and/or eBay international standard delivery, you don’t have to do a thing* - your current eligible international listings will automatically update to eBay International Shipping.

I would offer the camera through EIS.  My experience with the service had been extremely positive; and I've shipped about 75 to 100 items.  The highest priced item being around $600.

Not one single issue has come up.

I have had more scammers from the USA than all other foreign countries combined.
