It says "Increase your chances of selling fast for the price you want - try promoting your fixed price listing now."
But mister ebay sir, don't I have to PAY MONEY to promote? And if I do PAY MORE MONEY aren't I making LESS MONEY due to PAYING YOU MORE of the sale price?
Just saying...

Of course, but you might sell it faster. Might.

exactly! ZERO point of selling if we aren't making money.
if I don't sell at (or very close) to the price I have listed (without wasting money on promotion fees- which I will never do)
then I just move my items to other sites or sell locally.
too much work to just give most of the earnings to Ebay... no thanks.

If your items aren't selling, then you're making NO money rather than LESS money. If you have alternate venues where your items would sell, that would be the way to go. For those of us who have found other platforms as bad, or worse, than this one and wouldn't dream of selling locally, promoting at a low rate seems to be a better option.

@jonathanbrightlight every time I see a notification from Ebay about selling it "faster" I laugh....
because who cares how fast it sells if you lose money. IMO if you do all the work required to even just list an item here...you need to MAKE MONEY otherwise just a waste of time, right?

PL is a tool that when applied correctly, it can highlight an item/store you have listed. Most sellers do not understand how to use it and either use the minimum 2% or what eBay suggests. That approach is a waste of money. JMO
I would clean up your listing pictures and work on your listing titles. That might improve your sales/traffic without throwing money at eBay. IMHO

The message you quoted from eBay does not say you will make the same amount of money as an unpromoted listing. Just saying ...

Plenty of people here use promoted listings and do not lose money.
That aside ..
There actually can be a point to selling and losing money. If you have money tied up in unprofitable inventory, sometimes it makes sense to recoup as much as you can even if you lose. Because if you never sell an item, you lose all the money you have invested in it.
Like many other things in life ... often times there is no simplistic, one-size-fits-all, superficial answer for a situation.

Yep, You got it, But it may or may not sell faster, that generally doesn't seem to be the case.

Promoted Listings is a TOOL that a seller may choose to use and not use. It is a GREAT tool for some sellers and not so much for others. It is a CHOICE for each seller to make. If a seller decides to use this tool, then the seller sets the percentage of additional FVFs they are willing to pay for a sale. That is ALL within the seller's control. Don't like it, don't use it. It really is as simple as that.
There are other forms of the Promoted listings too. Still all are the CHOICE of the seller.

The basic Promoted Listing tool is easy to set up, heck you can use the Bulk editor to set it up if you want. That only takes a couple of minutes literally.
If Ebay is taking "most of the earnings" from you, then you have chosen to a high fee when using Promoted Listings. That again is the seller's CHOICE. So simply don't do that. It isn't a requirement. You can go as low as 2%.

It has NEVER been said it was a GUARANTEED sale program. I'm not sure anyone or anything can do that for you. It is simply a program that works for some and not for others. It is JUST a tool. Ebay offers sellers all kinds of tools. Each seller can choose to use those tools or NOT.

Not only are you paying more money and in the process losing more profit, but you also are joining millions of other sellers (driven by the fear of missing out) who are doing the exact same thing -- and thereby perpetuating the cycle that demands more and more and still more money toward promoted listings if you want to stay ahead of the competition.
Seriously, whoever thought of these ads could give PT Barnum a run for his money. 😂

"Just saying" when something is already said always struck me as a little strange.

Some sellers do very well with Promoted Listings. Especially in over saturated categories. As I said before, it is great for some sellers and not for others. It is a tool you can choose to use or not use. None of us can or should make decisions on what works best for another seller. PL is a great tool for some sellers and it has nothing to do the "fear of missing out". It is just a good business decision for them.
Ebay has had the program since 2015 but really didn't advance it or market it until the more recent years.
PL programs exist in all kinds of ways on all kinds of sites as well as B&M and have existed long before Ebay decided to create a program for this site.
Clearly the program is not right for you and that should not be an issue. But for others it does work.
