Recently, Google announced they would be discontinuing the G Suite legacy free edition, pushing people to upgrade to a paid Google Workspace subscription. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in a serious backlash from many users, and Google had to back down a bit. They now allow people who use the G Suite legacy free edition for non-commercial purposes to opt out of the transition to Google Workspace. We have more on this topic in our blog:

That would presumably include (and therefore possibly void) Gmail email services. Best you look into it and get a different Email or you may start having problems getting eBay messages.

I am not sure who hosts hotmail but that may be also affected.

Thanks for that I wasn't sure. I don't use either. There is another post today from another poster saying they are having trouble with their hotmail account. Wasn't sure if the 2 were related so I tossed it in.

Can confirm, they are two entirely different things.

Gmail is to G suite what Hotmail is to Office365.

Gmail isn’t going anywhere.

As I mentioned I do not use either one. But the email I received from my internet server contained the line

"Migrating Email from Google Workspace/G Suite Legacy/Gmail to your own account"

so a heads up seemed in order.

The migration from g suite to Google works is still not going yo affect regular, individual gmail users. I suggest you read up further on the subject on the blog post I assume is linked following the last line of the message you quoted.

Telling members who use a gmail address as a point of contact with eBay they might lose access to their email and/or eBay account will only cause unecessary alarm.

Hey Richard. G Suite legacy free edition is something users had to have signed up for before Dec 6 2012. It's a separate service from a standard no-frills Gmail account. G Suite was replaced with Google Workspace which is a paid service while the G Suite "legacy free" edition was for users that were grandfathered in and retained the service fee-free for almost a decade.

You can read a short summary here.

Anybody that was using the G Suite legacy free edition would have received a heads up from Google a while ago (plus several reminders) that their account would no longer be free as of a few days ago.

This does not impact users that have a standard Gmail account that never subscribed to the G Suite service.

Regardless, appreciate the heads up for those who may have missed the memo.
