Sales have been super slow so I have not been looking at my ebay account for sales and payments, I count on seeing the emails from ebay when that happens. However, a sale and subsequent payment did not make it past my spam filter. The buyer emailed me very upset demanding to know why I had not shipped and threatened to report me to ebay (mind you this was the first I had heard about the sale). I immediately packed and shipped the item and in formed the buyer and got this response:
I explained that I did not demand the money right away, ebay did. If were up to me to send the invoice then I would have only sent it today (as I just found out I had a sale). I know I was a week late it shipping, but I feel like this response is over the top for a $2 item. Any suggestions? I have canceled the rest of my auctions, I just don't feel like putting up with this kind of abuse is worth $2.

I'm not looking for sympathy, I just don't think being yelled at, swore at for shipped a couple of days late for a cheap little item is warranted. I was at fault, I agree, I just think the buyer was over reacting But, I see that most of the responses here disagree with me. Times have changed, people are more demanding now, more unforgiving of honest mistakes now. Politeness has gone out the window. If the roles were reversed, I would have sent a friendly reminder not the scathing message I received.

Neither eBay nor your buyer are responsible for how often you check your eBay account nor how your spam filter is configured.
So I am 100% with your buyer.
Buyers should not have to put up with sellers who do not regularly check their eBay accounts. The fact that you chose to be a absentee landlord is not your buyer's fault.

"I run a little ship downtown. It's just me. No employees.
I mostly stay in the back room.
Once every few days i'll check the front of the store
just in case someone may have wandered in and wants to buy something."
HaHaHaHaHa you're killing me here!!! Too funny!

If you want to know what is happening on your eBay account, you log in to eBay. It is really that simple.
If your chief complaint is that the buyer was angry, then you need to quit the human race. Buyers everywhere will be angry if sellers don't ship timely, ESPECIALLY during a holiday season. This may be a gift they purchased for someone and now it may not arrive in time. Not everyone exchanges gifts only on Dec 25.
I do agree the buyer was quite angry...makes me wonder if they had emailed you prior to the email you are showing us here.
As already stated, you listed the "only $2 item" and failed to complete the transaction timely, while blaming your email provider for dumping the email into a SPAM folder. This failure to meet your eBay selling obligations, sits squarely on your shoulders. eBay will ding your selling account for late shipment too (and they don't end an email on this, you have to check your Seller Dashboard for details).
eBay is not for everyone.

This was my thought. Just last week I had a buyer ask me if they could pay extra for Priority shipping because the item was a gift and they were doing a gift exchange on the 19th and wanted to be sure it was there by then. Or it could have been a birthday gift for all we know.

Your fault. If you're going to have items listed, you need to check your account everyday. Relying on just emails is foolish.

This is a list of the usual broad brush complaints - there have always been rude people and you are going to meet them if you deal with the public. Roll your eyes*, fulfill the order, take the lesson and do better. Be glad you don't have to live with this person.
*but apologise if you haven't - that usually takes the wind out of people's sails.

You lost me at, " ...a sale and subsequent payment did not make it past my spam filter".
