I need help please USPS is scamming me

A while back I sold an iPhone 7 Plus for $300.  Promptly I packaged it up and shipped it out.  It was going to Miami Florida and I’m pretty sure it was at the final facility. It departed at 1:25 AM and was never seen again. The item is still “in transit arriving late” after about 2 months but it’s really just lost.  I didn’t pay for insurance when shipping but when I pay for them to ship it and they lose it that’s on them. I have opened several cases online with no reply. I have called the postmaster and the post office with no help. Now I am out of the money in the phone all because of stinkin USPS. Help please! Ummmmm, when I check tracking, I get:

In Transit

May 15, 12:00AM

(Your package is moving within the USPS network and is on track to be delivered to its final destination. It is currently in transit to the next facility.)

Just curious - Are you using the USPS website or ebay to check tracking?

I have mailed over 175,000 packages over the years, all as a one man business.   It is on you if you did not get insurance.   It is very rare for this to happen.  Did you get signature confirmation, certain requirements are required when an items value exceeds $250 in order to qualify for ebay and paypal's seller protection.   On a good note,  most lost mail becomes delivered mail without an explanation for the delay.   My post office allows me in the back and I walk in the backdoor with my packages etc.  I have learned the system well.   My bet is your package is sitting in the bottom of a large postal bag.   When they emptied the bag, they did not empty that one completely.  The bag gets tossed on the floor of the hub and the bags stack up.  Until they use that bag again, your package is just going to sit idle.   When they use that bag again,  it will get scanned and be back on track for delivery.  Good Luck.

How do you see where usps says that my friend? Thanks

From my first post:

Tracking shows USPS hasn't received the package.

Status USPS Currently Awaiting Package

I checked the tracking number at USPS.com.

FYI that  is where I found the  tracking status  too- and movement  was posted up to May 15, 2019.  Others found the  same info as I did.  And this thread  started today 07.11.2019.

@johnrj1226 ,

Yes, I realize this thread started this morning. I was the first to respond.

As I have already said, I don't know why USPS.com showed that information. I copied and pasted it from the USPS.com site.

Maybe the USPS is using the same search algorithm for tracking numbers that ebay uses for it`s search LOL.

I have a, much younger, cousin up in Idaho that is a union steward at a postal facility who, in the past, has said 'strange things' can happen at the post office.  Maybe all the hits on the tracking has cause something to kick in.  Smiley Surprised

I don't know why USPS.com was showing that information. I guess maybe it was a glitch.

It's possible that the OP's small FC package is indeed hiding forgotten in a bag or corner somewhere. But it's been there for two months.

Fill out the form on USPS for  FIND MISSING MAIL (under Help) .  If I recall correctly, part of that form will ask if you want the item to be delivered or returned back to you if it is found.  You need to check Returned back to you.  If there is a comment box add " Please return this item to me because I have already issued a refund to the recipient".

If the bar code got wet when it was leaving the Miami Sorting Facility, or while it was on the loading dock of the destination post office, and the ink on the bar code smeared, that bar code would no longer be machine readable or scanable.

And if that was the case, neither the destination post office nor the carrier delivering the package is going to manually type the 21 numbers of the bar code into their scanner.

Or, if the carrier delivering the package DID type the 21 numbers of the bar code, maybe he mis-typed one of the 21 numbers.

At this point, it's impossible to determine exactly what happened to the package.

There is a 50% chance that it was delivered with a damaged bar code on the label, and a 50% chance that something else happened to the package.

I insure all packages that are over $30.

$30 is my loss tolerance threshold.

I would never have mailed a $300 item without USPS insurance.

When it comes to shipping, I always assume the worst and just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

You are making an unfounded, ridiculous comment. If you have this sort of problem, you should contact the Postmaster General immediately with your concerns.

This problem is not on the "stinkin USPS", it is 100% on you!!!! If there is a history of delivery problems from your area, you need to take extra precautions to insure that your packages are delivered properly.  If I had had this problem in the past, I would certainly use Priority Mail and insure a $300 item for full value. Waiting a couple of months to follow up on tracking or delivery of any item at all is very poor judgement.

Not defending USPS in any way, and I am sure they have a few bad eggs in the organization, but blanket statements from someone not taking care of their own business are simply uncalled for.
