I have a customer who purchased a $300 item buy it now back on May 9th, 2018. It was delivered on May 11th, 2018. I got a notice from PayPal on July 5th that he is disputing it as an "Unauthorized transaction" and so they subtracted the amount from my PayPal account while they "investigate". I gave them all the information I had to show that it was delivered and what transpired. However, I still haven't had the money returned to my account! I was reading through the "process" they have on their website, and it says that it can take up to 75 days to resolve this! Has anyone else had this happen? What did you do? Does PayPal do a good job of fighting for us, or do I need to try to get more involved to get my money back???

@vanishingpricesCall paypal and have them release your funds. As long you've uploaded proof of SHIPMENT you are covered by PP seller protection. PP should have already released your funds but since they didn't, call them up.

For an unauthorized transaction chargeback, all you need is proof of shipment to the address on the Paypal payment. Enter the tracking number and its related tracking info into the case and submit it. I've never had one of these take more than a few days to close out. Most have closed out in a few hours. If you don't want to wait, after you enter the relevant info, call Paypal and have them close out in your favor.
Unauthorized chargebacks can happen for a variety of reasons. The main reasons are a buyer or their spouse may not recognize the transaction on their bill, or the card was stolen and the credit card company has reversed transactions until they can be verified.

1. If you have other high priced items on eBay listed now, consider removing them.
2. Yes. I've dealt with this on multiple occasions but nothing to sound alarmist about. Maybe 4-6 of these in the last 2-3 years. Highest dollar amount of a case was around $40, minimum $7.99.
3. The reason why it takes up to 75 days is because the buyers bank is now involved. If you've ever dealt with a dispute with any of your CC companies or banks, this is somewhat a standard timeline.
4. In the most memorable case, the buyer was refunded around $40. A package did come back to me so what I think happened is instead of the buyer letting me know their item couldn't be delivered and was being returned to me, they called PayPal, completely circumventing eBay, even though that's where the sale happened. I don't think PayPal worked with them, so they called their bank.
5. I don't think you can get more involved but if you figure out a way please be kind enough to come back here and post what solution you arrived at. Some cases asked me for a tracking number, most others just stated "a case had been opened" and had language always suggesting I needed to just "wait it out".
I wish I could offer more help but really consider if you want to sell high priced items here, I no longer think it's worth it and I personally can't take the risk.

Small correction. If you provide a tracking number it will most likely be released to you but the bank investigation still has a process to run through. I've done exactly what others here have suggested on some cases and it still took weeks for the funds to be released because the bank hadn't completed their investigation.

We have had that happen and everything was resolved in our favor but the duration is correct. We also had an inad on an item at the max duration of 180 days. Turned out they lost the item and didn't want to go through insurance. That resolved much faster.

I've had that happen a few times. I had to call & Paypal did return my money.

There is nothing in my reply that needs to be corrected @futuretomorrow
the bank investigation has nothing to do with the OP, he gets his funds back now. He keeps the proceeds from the sale no matter what the bank decides. He’s covered by seller protection.

That hasn't been my experience on cases opened by a buyer via their bank when paid through PayPal.

Were they SNAD chargebacks? For all others, PayPal will release the funds with proof of delivery or proof of shipment because the seller is covered by seller protection no matter what the outcome is 🙂
