I currently have about 975 item listed. But seller hub says I can list an additional 181 by April 1st. That would put me over the 1000 that was originally the limit for my store

My kneejerk reaction is to offer that you not forget the auto-relists that'll be included in the 181 number.

You can list another 181 for no insertion fee, if you're willing to pay an insertion fee on all the other ones that haven't yet renewed this month. This is somewhat like when eBay urges you to "complete your drafts" after you're out of free insertions for the month.

That means that since March first that a total of 794 listings have either automatically relisted or been started by you. It doesn’t go by the amount of current listings but by new and relisted in that calendar month. As @mtgraves7984 pointed out, the remainder that you have available will likely be used for item relisting in March.
But a basic store also gives you up to 10,000 in specific categories. Your current listings are all or mostly in those categories so you will be able to use at least some of those.

Your personal listing/selling limit is different then your store listing limit.
If you have a 2000 item listing limit and your store limit is 1000, you can list 2000, but you'll have to, pay for any over the 1000.

The number of free insertions that you get with your Store subscription is completely separate from your listing limits. Read about listing limits here:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/selling-limits?id=4107
A seller's listing limit could be far less or far more than the number of free insertions that they get each month.
Regarding the free insertions for the store: One free insertion is used up each time you start a new listing, or each time one of your fixed price listings rolls over, which is each month on the same date that it was originally listed. So any listings which you began in past months after the 10th of the month have not yet rolled over in March and have not yet used up one of your March allotment of free insertions.

"or each time one of your fixed price listings rolls over, which is each month on the same date that it was originally listed."
Yeah, except for this month. I see they've fixed that as of today, but everything listed on March 1 is still renewing on March 31.

I guess there will be a a LOT of listings being ended on March 30th.
