I just wanted to thank eBay for giving it's sellers the middle finger again.

Truly, I appreciate how well you listened to the overwhelming feedback from the overwhelming amount of sellers who asked you to axe the good til canceled idea. I particularly like how you guys tried to frame it in a way to make it look like it's for our benefit.

Don't bother sending out those surveys anymore if you are going to just delete them without even reading them. It's obvious you do not care what your sellers think. Enjoy the extra money from the people who don't realize their listings are auto renewing, at least until they get mad about it and never sell on eBay again.

I hate having it rammed down my throat.

It's sad that after 15,000 plus sales the ebay decision makers think I have no clue how to run my business.

My business.

Ebay has not considered what we do on their website to be our business since Donohoe took over and the micromanagement continues to get worse and worse every Sellers Update as Ebay wants to be Amazon but without having any skin in the game.  As long as we are the only ones losing money on these changes they are happy as it continues to fill their coffers with money.

What Ebay continues to not realize is the biggest reason they are not growing like the other sites is the constant hand digging deeper and deeper into Sellers pocket because other sites are out performing them.  They do not accept the fact that these issues are of their own making because Sellers get fed up with them trying to micromanage our businesses without having a clue what we do or how we do it only to try and grab more money from the Sellers.  Next quarter they will have to come up with another gimmick to try and show 1% growth for the quarter so they will once again come up with a idiotic idea in an effort to dig even deeper into the few Sellers they have remaining as this will once again cost them more sellers.  They don't care because they still feel Sellers are a dime a dozen and easily replaced, which most of us are.  But what they keep losing is the multitude of unusual items that Ebay is known for having.  If buyers want new goods they can go to another site and usually get it much cheaper because that site is not strangling its Sellers with fees unrelated to having made a sale.  Ebay keeps losing traffic so they have to come up with ways to get more money without it relying on a sale having occurred.

I've been a frequent Buyer since 2010 and was just about to setup a Sellers account, to sell things in anticipation of an upcoming move.  Based on all I'm reading and seeing, and with serious Technical Issues plaguing the site (see some of my posts), I would not want to Sell on eBay.

Companies that don't listen to their Customers will always fail.

I just went to list an item as Fixed Price and was mortified to see my only option was Good til Cancelled. How did I miss this!!!!????

Any ideas on how we can get this ridiculous policy reversed?

eBay is an equal offender when it comes to Treating Customers Badly (Sellers & Buyers).

The other thing that happens in business is that when things get tight management looks at salaries and who they can get rid of ... often the Sales Department is a big target because those are some of the highest page people in the organization so the short sighted bean counters think they can reduce cost by canning sales people and THAT winds up being the kiss of death to the company because without a sale NO business has been done ... its business 101.  Sales people are some of the smartest people in industry, while they don't have to design the rocket ship or build the rocket ship or maintain the rocket ship BUT they do have to know exactly how it works, how it is serviced and what the benefits are so they can sell it.

Apply this basic business principal to eBay and other online sales venues and when they mess with their sales people too much they will eventually find those sales people finding other ways and places to sell and make money ... because again, they are some of the smartest people around.  When management does not listen to their sales people, who are on the front lines of business every single day, they are shooting themselves in the foot and ultimately the company crashes ... I think this may be one of the main reasons they are no longer at the top of the online sales industry and are constantly playing catch up with their competition ... which continues to grow every day.

Until Ebay sees the negative effect this will wind up having on their revenue stream they will keep this new policy in place  as they are now dependent on fees created to replace the FVF they used to make on sales.  As sales continue to drop Ebay has had to become creative in how to squeeze blood out of a turnip (Sellers) without a sale having occurred.  Then they continue to wonder why their growth is 1% in what should have been a fantastic 4th quarter as Sellers leave or move more and more product to other sites where most revenue is dependent on a sale happening.

If eBay wants to survive and play in the e-merchant game, all they have to do is set up two selling platforms within the site; one like the old eBay focusing on auctions (and without all the unwanted options, forced changes and fees), and one focusing on Buy It Now volume sales for small and large Sellers, like Amazon.

Amazon is already focusing on smaller Sellers with one or more items to sell, and collectable items are already heavily populating the site.  If Amazon turns on an a full-scale auction platform soon, eBay will most likely lose much of it's customer base.

What is FVF?

I sell mostly old books so the eBay platform with pictures works well for me.   I've used both Auction and Fixed Price but it looks like I won't be using Fixed Price anymore.

Ebay has already lost a large majority of its customer base, both buyers and sellers, as people are tired of the daily changes that the CEO spouts are needed to inspire growth in the company.  He calls it Disruptive Technology and every change they make continues to Disrupt their site and not for the better.  But Ebay cannot see that maybe their customers don't want all of these constant changes.

They want a site that has a GOOD search engine so they can find what they want, not what Ebays AI wants to show them, and sellers want a site that shows their items 24/7/365.  It may not be on the front page all the time, but at least a buyer can find it if they want to look for it.  Buyers used to be able to find things through the Sellers Stores so Ebay destroyed the individuality of those also and now will only do 1 search in a store before it reverts to the entire site and once again showing the Buyer what Ebay wants them to buy only.  AI is only as good as the programmers that designed it and IMHO Ebays AI continues to have to repeat kindergarten because it does not appear to even grasp the basics.

After 10 years of selling I'm letting my listings dwindle out and 26 days from now I'll be through with eBay. This idea of taking my control away from me simply is the last straw. Enough is enough.

A lot of people will make the comment that Auctions are dead but the opposite could not be more true.  There is an entire segment of the online industry that is continuing to develop their online reach from Auction sales.  Auction houses are shifting a % of their weekly or monthly Auction items to a combination of live and online.  Other Auction companies will go in to an estate and liquidate the entire contents of a home in 3 weeks ... that's about how long they advertise and have the Auction run and then each item ends with a Soft Close ... meaning as long as people keep bidding the item is alive and time is added ... it gets the most out of an item.

The companies doing this in our area started with NOT shipping anything but have slow progressed to where they partner with a local UPS Store or other Shipping store and when items are sold to an online bidder the put the bidder in touch with the shipper and let them work things out ... its a sweet deal to be honest, all sales are final and shipping issues wind being between the bidder and the shipper NOT the venue or the consigner ...

The process here is to cycle items off eBay when they have sat too long BUT are from a profitable lot ... they go to one of several local Auction houses to increase the profit margin AND to get rid of the items ... dropping things off then getting a check in the mail is a nice deal too.

I'm going to reach out to eBay through another channel later this week (for another issue) and will try to address this also.

This seems to cross the line into Unfair & Deceptive Acts & Practices.  It appears to be a deceptive and self-enriching process, intended only to trigger fees.

problem is that auctions are DEAD on ebay. they used to be a great way to sell, but the number of listings has skyrocketed out of control and the number of buyers has decreased at the same time, so auctions are a great way to sell something for a fraction of it's ultimate value (quickly sometimes) but are a terrible way to get a decent price for things. BIN is the only way to make it on ebay in general any more and they've just made that all that much more difficult with this policy.
