No sales for 2 Days !! I just promoted practically everything - over 200 items -- at a very low rate -- like 5% -- to see if it has ANY EFFECT at all on my sales. I have used promotions at times -- here and there on high priced items. I have never seen much of a benefit. So I went in and did a bulk promotion of every darned thing - LOL -- I will let you know if it has any effect at all. LOL

I started this discussion by saying I promoted ALMOST everything on my site. I DID NOT promote non-clothing items and a few low cost tops. Guess what I sold today? A needlepoint kit and a low cost top -- both are among the very few items I DID NOT promote. It is impossible to figure this stuff out. It would be easier to try to figure out what the winning lottery number is going to be than to figure out how to increase sales on ebay (other than giving it all away - LOL )

I did a bulk edit about 2 months ago and promoted all my listings at 1% It's worked really well for me so far. I'm finally back to being up to last year's sales. Whenever it seems like a lull I will do a refresh and bulk edit again and do 1.2% or 1.3% back and forth.

Careful, I promoted about 5 items last month in the same promotion percentage.
They all sold... and my fees jumped from $55 to $85 - a 60% increase in fees to sell 4 or 5 items! Are they KIDDING?

I know this is a little of subject, but selling clothes online has got to be one of the hardest categories, your listings are great , I feel like if you used your skills and put the same effort into some other categories you could do really good.

I should not have to pay Ebay more to show my listing........They should already be promoting them...

I can tell you as a buyer that it most likely will not help you at all. I skip every promoted listing every time I do a search. They are a waste of a buyer's time to have to scroll pass an item priced higher in almost every case, than the items not being promoted. Good luck !

You don't. every listing is shown to buyers. The only difference is if you use promoted listings it shows 2x. Once on the first page, then once wherever it normally would land in search compared to others in your category.

BigCorp everywhere preys on the uninformed, gullible and dumb buyers. Pre-pay shipping for a year and call it "free shipping", constant "on-sale" gimmicks, etc. I don't know how many times we've had to tell shoppers in the grocery store that an item "on-sale" is not always the cheapest! They do that with butter a lot, 2lb on-sale is more than two 1lb of the same butter!

@cathydale wrote:Well since promoting over 200 items Saturday morning, I got 6 sales that evening and into the night and then it just stopped -- as it always does. No new watchers - in less than 24 hours everything just stopped. I listed new things -- promoted them. Nothing happening. Maybe I should not have promoted everything ? Maybe a little each day ? But I think no matter what I try it is just going to cycle this way. Hoping tonight my stuff gets some "light" again. Last night alot of my sales were in one state - That happens alot.
Maybe go in every few days and batch un-promote and then promote again?

I hope all the posters here realize that Free Shipping means that the cost of shipping is included in the asking price.
Not that the seller is paying it herself.
Which is cheapest?
A $10 item with $5 shipping?
A $5 item with $10 shipping?
A $15 item with Free Shipping?
They all are. One customer likes the low price and ignores the "high" shipping cost. One customer likes that the shipping cost is lower than the asking price. And most love Free Shipping.
None of which mean that the customer is stupid. She just has an emotional reaction to pricing.
I also would encourage sellers not to pay more than 1% for a Promoted Listing. I strongly believe those 4.5% or 7.8% "trending" are made up of flimflam and moonshadows.

Indeed it is very tough to make sales on a platform that cut 90% of its advertising. I don't think a few TV commercials is going to make up for all the millions of ads ebay pulled from publishers websites.
I have been trying everything I can think of to get sales moving. The only likely solution I can think of is to list more and use promoted listings.
But promoting listings is starting to feel pointless, because any traffic they bring is dependent upon how much traffic is on the platform to begin with. Even with them, I am not seeing any real substantial traffic resulting form their use.
I now have well over 1,000 listings, and I'm only averaging around 2 or 3 sales a day, and some days nothing at all.
ebay's intentions of charging sellers more fees in the face of cutting marketing budgets is not going to work out in ebay's favor when there's no sellers left.
Just a few days ago my friend closed his account here after more than a decade of sales and over 100,000 transactions. To say ebay is definitely losing money would be an understatement, they are going broke.
ebay says its making bigger profits with promoted listings, I don't see how, and I think they're lying. They only earn the platform money when sellers get sales, which clearly is not happening.

I have to agree , Ebay has ran off so many Sellers, that's where all the buyers are going..
No Buyers= No sales!
Its to the point now you can't hide it, we are losing Buyers with all of Ebays new Changes....

You can promote every darn thing and if Ebay is not advertising and your listings are not being picked up by google it probably wont make too much of a difference. I promoted one item recently and sold it so it can work but the site has to have enough traffic for these items. Promoting within the site will give you more visability but people need to be on this site to see it and buy it.
