Hi, i checked your listings and you have your local pick up set properly. So yes, folks often don’t read the listings. Just be sure when you cancel the sale that you use “problem with address” or if the buyer wants to cancel use “buyer requested” or otherwise you will get in trouble with eBay. Seller cancelled transactions are a cardinal sin on eBay.

When i'm selling stuff for local pick up only, i never use ebay. I always use that other (classified type) site. Good luck!

I looked at your listing for a turnout coat that ended 4 days ago.
The Description is nearly impossible to read. The phrase "local pickup only" is the final 4 words in this enormous block of text with almost no punctuation or capitals. I'm not surprised that it was overlooked. Very few buyers are going to slog all the way through that mass of text.
For future listings, put "pickup only" in the FIRST line of the Description as well as in the shipping section and title. Some sellers find it effective to use all caps, even a different color, and then start a new paragraph. And try to use some punctuation and paragraphs in your description, it will improve the odds that potential buyers will read it.

Ive sold about 20 local items on Ebay and even sold items with regular postal shipping only to find that the buyer lived a couple of towns over. I gave them the option of meeting up or waiting for the mail. And when we buy cars (we are up to SEVEN now) on Ebay we FIND them on Ebay but we make sure the car is local so we can check it out before paying. SSSSOOOOO many more buyers on Ebay and as long as they are willing to pick it up, it works. When an item sells give them X number of days to pick up (with cash payment), then file unpaid buyer.

Half the questions I receive, half at the minimum, are inquiries that could have been answered if the buyer just read the listing. I do not answer them. If they're truly interested they'll read on and make a bid...

Yeah, we had a guy in Washington buy two tires with the Local Pickup only using BIN. We are not a store, in Colorado and knew that he would never come to get the tires. After several emails asking when he wanted to come get the tires, he finally emailed back and said that he wanted us to ship and he would pay the difference. We emailed back that we are rural and the nearest UPS place that could handle the tires is 80 miles away.. that would be 80 miles to get the price, 80 miles back to invoice him to pay, then back again to actually ship. Not very likely for $75 that he paid for the tires. He emailed back, said we were incredibly lazy and insisted that we should ship the tires for free, or cancel his purchase. We cancelled, using buyer's request, and let him know that the PayPal fees wouldn't be refunded!

Do you mean like the people who post here almost daily who can't get it straight at to whom is the seller and who is the buyer (sometimes even within a single sentence)?
Into your life it will creep

It's probably a good idea that you no longer ship because apparently, you were cancelling auctions if the buyer didn't pay by your 9 am shipping time, as seen in your feedback. Technically, a buyer has 2 days to pay and cancelling can lead to trouble for you.
It's good that you are now putting "will not ship" in the listing title and really, it also should state that first, in the description, in big bold letters,- NO SHIPPING LOCAL PICKUP ONLY. Otherwise they have to read through the difficult to read block of text to find it at the bottom.
I did find it funny when you said that the fire-hydrant would be a great gift for the dog in your life.

Some people don't read or they can't comprehend what they do read . I once had a heavy wood table and chairs for sale on e bay with LOCAL PICKUP ONLY written everywhere in the listing . I had it priced at 30 dollars just to get rid of it quickly. A guy back east [ I'm in CA. ] bought it , paid the 30 dollars then messaged my inbox just making sure the 30 dollars also covered the shipping. And these people are allowed to vote . Tulips

Maybe your buyer and the OPs buyers are actually reading the descriptions and understand them. They just suck with geography.

Ok, it's late on a Friday night and I usually have only sarcasm to contribute with a few drinks in but ...
didn't there used to be a little box in the preferences section you could click if you were a full-time "Local Only" seller. It was like a backstop for all the aforementioned issues.
Where did that box go? Because I do not see it now.
